Photographic travel guide of the Architecture of the city of Glasgow, most populated city in Scotland (Great Britain).
Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and the third largest in the United Kingdom. It is situated on the River Clyde in the country's West Central Lowlands.
Glasgow grew from a small rural settlement on the River Clyde to become one of the largest seaports in the world. Expanding from the medieval bishopric and royal burgh, and the later establishment of the University of Glasgow in the 15th century, it became a major centre of the Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th century. From the 18th century the city also grew as one of Great Britain's main hubs of transatlantic trade with North America and the West Indies.
With the onset of the Industrial Revolution, the population and economy of Glasgow and the surrounding region expanded rapidly to become one of the world's pre-eminent centres of chemicals, textiles and engineering; most notably in the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry, which produced many innovative and famous vessels.
Glasgow is known as the "Second City of the British Empire" for much of the Victorian era and Edwardian period.
Today it is one of Europe's top ten financial centres and is home to many of Scotland's leading businesses.

We visited for about 9 days a few years ago, and fell in love with the city. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Do not miss either a tour of the city hall/chambers and its remarkable marblework, or the view from the Necropolis. Easy to feel at home in Glasgow.

Those monuments and buildings have been a great reference for me to avoid getting lost or waste my time. Spending some minutes contemplating them is great. I love this city and will always make it feel proud of me anytime I am there or away

Thirty six years back I was a student for a year at what is now Glasgow Caledonian University (then Glasgow College). Leaving aside a very very few racial abuse and some awkward moments when some one found it hard to believe that I would return to my own country, I enjoyed staying in that marvellous city as the great majority of people I met were courteous and friendly. Got a number of my class and hostel mates (Huw Evans, Keir McCormack, Deidre McMohan, Janet Stewart, Diane Campbell, Hazel Robb, James Ryan, Joyce Falconer, Anne Kerlin) as friends which helped me to pull through home sickness. Initially though, it was a challenge for me to brave the winter as I came from a sub tropical country.

Extremely well done video. A great production of a hugely underestimated city. I didn't mind the music at all. It is difficult to choose the right music for the mood you want. I have explored the free tracks you get from the KZbin audio libarary for mine but usually stick to a small selecion plus two or three sounds from the sound library in my slide production. I wouldn't want to watch a silent slide show personally. Nice job anyway!

Hello Terry. We're very grateful for your extraordinary comments. We've read about Glasgow usually as what you call "an underestimated city" but, nevertheless, during the day we had to walk around its city center we found an elegant architecture and a city wich was making a big effort to renew its infrastructures. We spent a good time there. Thank you very much from Basque Country.

You are very welcome. You are correct Glasgow is making an effort but I suspect more for business reasons rather than for tourists or ordinary citizens. The Cydeside is starting to look good with new flats and bridges. Now retired I have more time to visit the city and enjoy the architecture and arts! Best wishes from Scotland. :)
