Glasgow Subway Metro-Cammel Legacy train at Hillhead station 04/12/2015

On Friday the 28th of June 2024 the last Glasgow Subway Metro-Cammel Legacy trains were operated, after the introduction of the 3rd generation Stadler stock starting from December 2023.
I made this short video in December 2015, when I last visited my Grandmother, who passed away in July 2016.
These 2nd generation trains will always mean Glasgow Subway to me, having travelled extensively on them since they were introduced in 1980 after the total refurbishment of the system that started in 1977, I have endless fond memories of trips "up the toon" on them, as a child, a teenager and an adult. I even travelled on the 1st generation trains when I was a baby.
The Metro-Cammel trains were initially 2-car motorised sets, in 1992 8 trailer cars were added, forming 3-car trains.
Opened in 1896 , the Glasgow Subway was cable powered until 1935 when the original gripper cars were converted to electric 3rd rail traction. My grandfather used to always mention the traction cable "as thick as a man's forearm" in constant movement.
In Glasgow we use the transatlantic term "subway" for the underground.
