I am English, and for what it's worth, if the Scots choose independence I would be sorry to see it. I have lived in Canada 35 years, and tears still come to my eyes when I hear the pipes Go mbeannaí Dia thú agus go gcumhdaí sé thú

I'm incredulous that this program has completely overlooked one of the most exciting and interesting gems of the UK coastline, namely, the royal manor, PORTLAND in Dorset - especially, considering it's exceptional historical, geographical and geological intrigue. For example: It has some of the most amazing coastal views in the UK (including the aerial view the Dam Busters' test ground, Chesil beach). It has an amazing history: (source of Portland stone, used in some of the world's most famous historical buildings, such as St. Paul's Cathedral, the UN Building in New York, etc. Once home of William Penn, the revered 17th century founder of Pennsylvania, USA, it was a key WW2 naval base and launch-place of the D-Day invasion, is the site of many shipwrecks, a Post-war underwater weapons establishment, and one of the top civil engineering wonders of the western world: Portland Breakwater, and has one of the best preserved 17th century coastal forts in the UK. It's a mecca for rock-climbers, wind surfers and fossil hunters and was home of the 2012 Sailing Olympics! Visually, it has some of the most spectacular views of the Jurassic Coast Footpath, I could go on. But, hey, all this is clearly not interesting enough for the makers of "Coast"!!

@9:04 "does it matter, which way into the water it goes?" "No no, no no, just, ...just, ..eh ,, pop it in" then turns it 180 degrees before it goes in the water

Great vid! Can anyone explain why the locks are required? What would happen if they were left open? Thanks
@spencerwilton58314 жыл бұрын
channelKERR The locks are required to lift or lower boats between the different levels of the canal- its mountainous country, it would have been impossible to build the canal all at one level. It's impossible to leave both sets of lock gates open, water pressure prevents it.

The locks are acquired for going up or down gradients.

The people of various countries hate the British for their overseas actions and blame it on racism, not true, the wealthy and ruling classes of UK did exactly the same terrible things to their own peoples. Land clearance (on the whim of the owners) happened all over Britain, including England. Don't blame the British, blame their heartless rulers.

I love getting away to The Coast but it's too intense in its delivery ... they talk to us like infants' mothers as they do in "Spring Watch" - whilst I admire the presenters genuine passion it's too "BBC"

@glasgow1234 I'll support Scottish Independence if the Scots get behind The Welsh and us Cornish so we can have ours too (instead having our fragile economies and lifestyle damaged by the whims and tastes of the South Eastern English Bourgeoisie)

stillceaser The total Bollocks of the Cornish being a separate Celtic race blown sky high by the recent DNA plotting of the UK which stated the nearly all of Cornwalls people had mostly Anglo Saxon blood.Independence my arse.
