I think its really disrespectful to a company like Glashutte when someone says that it shouldn't cost as much as a submariner when its, in my opinion, a better product than the submariner.

I just bought this watch last week. You can get one on a synthetic strap for under $7K from an AD. Dial, finish, fit- just superb. It's a tool watch from a great German manufacturer. This is probably not a watch for a Rolex/Omega buyer. This is to compete against a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms-and others in that class/orbit. It's for you the watch buyer to appreciate the workmanship and the story behind the brand and the watch that inspired the SeaQ -(1969 East German made Spezimatic). I realize the numbers are large and it's not for everyone but I really enjoy it. Rolex will sell 500 Submariners for every one of these sold. That's okay. Rolex is a great watch and it gets you noticed and has great resale value. GO is not competing against Rolex- it can't win. I don't dislike the Rolex brand family- I own a Tudor North Flag and I love that watch as well. I also love the new Bond Omega Seamaster No TIme to Die Edition at $10K- that watch is beautiful. In person, the new blue dial version is stunning with applied white numerals (for those who need applied numerals to somewhat justify this price point). I went with the vintage look of the black dial but if you want a watch that people will notice- the blue dial is the one for you. Also the larger panoroma date is awesome but it's just to large for me (especially the thickness). It sits too high on the wrist and is not comfortable. So many great watches- so hard to choose.

It's interesting to get to the point in a hobby where you can look at a watch and know it's not for you, and I don't mean just because of the price, but to still be able to appreciate it on it's own terms.

Got mine in July 2020 after seeing it in late 2019. Took a minute to drop heavy coin but worth it. It’s stunning on so many levels, a great reissue. Even the movement is based on the original caliber 39 from 1969 but GO modernized it to 39-11 so yeah very faithful in and out. This GO and my new GS SLGH003 coming December with that 9SA5 movement! And I’m straight up done. I hope.

Bruce, I see they've updated the bracelet in 2023. It's now fully brushed! If they'd just add the open caseback i think I'd for sure upgrade my BB58 to this. I also own a white SMP, and feel like this would be an amazing compliment to that in terms of my divers. I do really like the contrast right now of the SMP vs the BB58 for that reason - modern vs vintage.

Don't get me wrong, this is an awesome watch, and probable worth close to the asking price, with an AD discount. I think 10K is too much. I think too many watch brands are upping the prices of their watches because of Rolex. They figure, if Rolex can charge 10k plus, we can also. Breightling did this with their higher end models, and they didn't sell very well. For 10K, I would get the JAEGER-LECOULTRE POLARIS CHRONOGRAPH, or a sports Rolex model. The watch also looks like the Seiko 62 mas, only with a different dial. The numbers, and indices are also painted on, not sure that's a good feature for a watch costing 10K.
@BruceWilliams
@BruceWilliams 3 жыл бұрын
I think luxury brands like GO aren't focusing about buyers who can only afford one 10k retail watch. They are marketing themselves to those who can buy multiple as well as the next tier up with ease.
@Sebastian85

I totally agree with you. I never see this watch in that price range. It would always feel like too much paid for. Okay, the movement is decorated, but you can't see it. Compared to Tudors Black Bays and Pelagos or so many great watches for 10k, I don't see the SeaQ as a rival. And the used market for this watch speaks for itself. It seems like there is a low demand. You can get them unworn for around 6000 Euro.

Hi Bruce, I like the way you make your videos and one can feel your passion for watches... please go ahead. The Glashütte watch in your video is really amazing and I totally agree that a display caseback would be a nice feature. If I had the choice between the sub and the Glashütte what would I do? Well, I guess I would prefer the Glashütte over the sub, because only watch guys would identify it at first glance. And I think this does not have to be a disadvantage. Best regards from the middle of Germany Uwe

Looks like amazing quality. I’m surprised that people in the comments think it should cost a lot less when clearly, with the decorated movement (which sadly can’t be seen) and the level of finishing of the bracelet and casework , more man-hours have probably gone into this watch than the sub. Not a fan of the larger dial numerals but can’t fault it for much else. Great review.

Bruce Williams Yes, I feel people haven’t opened their mind yet to this watch and brand. Fair enough if you don’t like the design or if resale value and brand kudos are really important to you, but to ‘diss’ the watch because it has printed and not applied indices and overlook the positives seems a little narrow-minded to me. Just my 2 cents worth, I’ll be quiet now! 🤐

Great job, Bruce. Great watch. I take the Glashütte any time over the Submariner IMO. Remember, Glashütte has much much lower production as Rolex. It’s a beautiful watch but one of the areas Rolex wins that doesn’t get acknowledged so much is that they look great when beat up. Even modern Rolex looks cool with scratches and general wear and tear. I’m not so sure the GO, which is clearly a more refined watch, has that daily wearer vibe though. What would it look like after 5years daily wear?

@jonathanlau6964
@jonathanlau6964 3 жыл бұрын
Vishal, your comment was the first one that came up on the comments feed and when I read "99.9%" I thought you were exaggerating... and after scrolling down, you are not far off. I must admit that I am completely shocked that the watch community universally would take the Rolex over the GO. When I look at the SeaQ it looks like a near perfect blend of a vintage Fifty Fathoms (with the rounded bezel, crystal and dial numbering) and believe it or not... vintage submariners with the perfect sized case and the angles and proportions of the lugs. When I look at the new Rolex's it all seems a bit too industrial... to0 many lines and edges. The case and lugs are too angular. The crystal is not domed. It just seems to lack care and a personal touch. I am sure I will remain as one of the 0.01% that like this watch more than the Rolex and look forward to some watch geek hate! Keep up the amazing work Bruce (I do agree with your centre link comment... and obviously... all watches are better when you can see the movement... even if it is... gasp... a quartz!)

For a true tool watch, having a solid, engraved back rather than simply molded, that’s completely appropriate. While it is nice to see a beautiful movement, for me at least, that novelty wears off very quickly. These are beautiful, i personally find them more interesting than a Sub by a large margin, but that price…. This is one I keep a casual eye out for on the pre owned market. They certainly make fine watches. One last thought, while I’m not remotely one to worry about power reserve and a watch like this is designed to be a daily wear, relative to the asking price, the movement is behind the times. I don’t generally sweat the specs favoring overall attention to detail, but there’s a lot of cheddar on the table when you buy one.

Its a beautiful watch but I have to say it is over price. For that price I rather go for a better watch which can hold its value well. This piece can easily lose 30% of its value within a year. I love the watch n the look (but not the bracelet) of it but the price is just too unrealistic. These days I shifted from buying watches I fall in love at first sight to buying watches that can either hold its price well or depreciate just a little bit or it appreciate for me to make a profit out of it. After buying, selling n trading of watches (of more than 100 pieces) over the last 10 yrs as a hobby I have learnt my lesson well. Everytime I see a watch I like n tempted to buy, I asked myself whether am I really going to wear it or is it just some infatuation.

Jonathan Mills-Winkler I guess they are leaning towards the dressy-diver as opposed to the tool-diver. I personally love the look of the bracelet and the polished centre links but it’s all down to personal taste.

Looks like they took the pictures on my Omega box. I find that a little telling. I like the watch. It's nice,and clean. The bracelet is very close to my Omega 300m ,and no date,so ok ? Not a Rolex fan, I've got a few gripes with the Omega, but no deal breakers, yet,but it's new, so plenty of time to find more. I live on a sailboat, have for 12 years, i dive a lot, i paint mega yachts, so I see more Rolexs by the bushel, I like Rolex, who wouldn't? Other than the "Look at me" factor. Which,for me,was the reason i went 300m, no date, no escape valve. I use all my equipment without much thought about a few scratches, knocks or dings,as long as it functions properly, I'm good. I just don't understand the price. Ok,so 65 people will get one ? I'm guessing collectors ? Gonna leave it in a box for a few years, and get what ? Couple Gs ? So you can do what? Buy another watch? I have no qualms with collectors. That's what you're into, maybe this is has exciting potential, and you can leave it to the kids. Awesome.... My Opinion, save a few Gs,buy an Omega, or spend the 10,and buy the Rolex, or something. I'm also not a watch guru,so I could be totally wrong, and it's some kind of unicorn. My advice? Like it? Buy it. Thanks for the info.

The comments below are sad. Do actual watch enthusiasts watch your channel? These watches are really not comparable. G.O. Is on another level. High horology. Rolex is not. Omega is not. G.O. Is. 10 grand is a bargain for this quality. Rolex is the better buy, resale though.

Lovely watch and review. From a divers perspective the Rolex Sub is the most legible. For diving the bezel is the key. If you go under water with the Rolex Sub its easy to see the 15 minute markers on the bezel. On this watch though, like some Seiko bezels, the 15 minute markers are not distinct. Also the large numbers on the dial distract from the bezel. Rolex wins as a dive watch.

I just don't understand this brand's pricing policy and product placement, I mean they are not selling well, non-WIS people don't really know anything about this brand, and then instead of making a "big hit" watch, nice dial, interesting numerals, decent horology and finishing movement and then price it to make Omega/Tudor/... divers make look like cheap crap watches, they decide to compete with Rolex/Blancpain/Breguet etc. or even AP Diver (can be found in that ballpark)...I just don't get it. Impossible pill to swallow 😫, price?! non-display movement, no panorama date (I mean just why)...Sorry, to sum up, I love their designs, love the fact they are german quite proudly, this watch has so much potential, however the so-far execution is shameful.

Probably I'''[ll never be able to afford these watches ( frirend of mind just purchesed Rolex Submariner - I am happy for him ) however in this comparesment I would give more heart for Glashutte Original SeaQ. Rolex looks childish and silly. SeaQ is adult and serious. Personally I would buy Rolex, send to any wanker and would buy SeaQ + ORIS Aquis as daily watch.

@@sadaka201 Well I've seen what Bruce had shown us... and you'd have to say one of many examples I could give would be the Omega Seamaster Diver 300 co-axial. At what? A third of the cost. I mean even the Submariner costs less.

I doubt you can find anything at this level for 2k. Similar looks maybe, but not similar level of finishing. Yeah it would be a tough sell at $10k, but I've seen these already selling for around $7.5k new and you could probably even get them for lower once used pieces start coming up, just because GO is not really a strong brand market wise. That being said, like what Bruce said, I think the level of finishing is a step above both Rolex and Omega, too bad they chose not to show off the movement, cause that's probably what would set it apart further. (BTW I own both Rolex and Omega)
