You show tracing the gem, cutting the paper, then gluing it on but I have made hundreds of these and I found that as long as your careful when cutting it's much quicker to the gem to the paper and then cut around it, holding the gem at an angle while doing so. Just thought I'd say this to save a step for those who like to make lots of them at one time. Also, don't forget magazine pages. they are thinner but just add more mod podge and your set.

Hey! Yes, I believe that should work just fine. The main difference would be the thickness of it - the dimensionality - so you may need to apply a few layers of regular ModPodge to achieve a more finished look and make sure the paper won't go anywhere. Thanks for visiting - have fun :)

I need to start using that toothpick method. I started using these 8mm domes and the bubbles just gather dead middle. I use to be able to press them out easily with larger ones like 13mm or 18. Hope it works

Hi! I just discovered your channel this morning and am really excited! I've been wasting so much time trying to find my niche - I have a strong feeling I'm supposed to be doing/creating SOMETHING, but I don't know what, if that makes any sense? I know, sounds kinda weird:-) Anyway, I'm going to try to make your bails or bales, sorry for my spelling LOL! And it figures I have almost every type of mod podge but this one. I do, however, have glossy accents and wonder if I could use this instead? My apologies if this has already been asked and answered - I did skim over the comments rather quickly and didn't see this question. I thank you so much for your help and for these tutorials!! Now Christmas is not so depressing or buying presents I mean. Not so stressful uugghh!! you know what I mean? :-) Thanks a million!!

Hello, sorry for the late reply! You will need to first seal your printed artwork using a product called JudiKins Micro Glaze. That should prevent your image from bleeding or smudging when you apply the glue!

awesome project, I want to try this. Can you use foil for the backing? What about loose glitter?
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa - foil is a cool idea! But I'm honestly not sure how aluminum foil would work with the Mod Podge - it may not stick - but I think it's definitely worth a try. If you mean gold or silver foil (leaf) I think that would work really well. As for glitter - heck yeah! Mod Podge and glitter work great together. Have fun!

CABOCHON QUESTION! (Making Cabochon Rings) I have been using the E 6000 glue, to glue the cabochon dome to the photo. It distorts it to a degrees, and I get air bubbles no matter what I do. And I was told I needed expensive glossy picture paper to print the photo I want for the ring. Do I have to use a particular type of paper? If so, what kind? Is modpog(sp) better for working with gluing the photo to the dome?
@AnnieHowes-Jewelry-Supplies

+Brittany Headbang You don't need expensive glossy paper. Try Glamour Seal. You can also use inkjet prints on card stock.

I do not have dimensional Mod Podge just normal (matt) would that still be good to seal the edges of the glass cabochon? Should I just use a lot of it and use the toothpick to get rid of the air bubbles and what not.
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sara! Sorry for the late reply. Normal matte Mod Podge should work to seal the edges. Instead of using a lot all at once I would suggest many thin (normal) layers and letting them dry in between. Hope that helps!

Instead of using mod-podge dimensional magic, can you use clear glue for sealing the paper in at the back?
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 10 жыл бұрын
I've never tried it but don't see why not! The main reason I use the Dimensional Magic Mod Podge is because the domed effect makes it seem like the paper is almost encased in the glass - it blends in nicely. Let me know how it works out for you :)
@augsburg101
@augsburg101 10 жыл бұрын
What about using print-outs for the paper component? Wouldn't the ink run with the Mod Podge? Are domed stickers the only option in that case?
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 10 жыл бұрын
There is a product called MicroGlaze that I believe is for that very purpose: amzn.to/TZmxOI I have never used it but from the information and buyer reviews on the amazon page it looks like that's exactly what you would need for that. Read through those reviews - looks like there are some great tips from happy customers! It's not exactly cheap but they say only use a little so it lasts a long time. You will still want to apply the mod podge and follow the rest of the steps in the tutorial as normal - simply seal and waterproof your printed images first (and be sure to allow the proper drying time stated in the product's instructions). I would love to hear how this works out! It's something I've been wanting to try but haven't done it yet!

Could I use crafters pick glue?
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 10 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I don't see why not - it says it bonds to glass and will dry clear! I think it's probably more important to worry about the kind of paper you use. If it's thinner than scrapbook paper, for example, it will get soggy, wrinkle, and tear. Let us know how the Crafter's Pick glue works out for this project!

Is there a prettier way to cover the back? I'm wanting to make a few as charms but they might turn around a bit on a bracelet. Any ideas would be great! Love these! Jann
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 9 жыл бұрын
jann oliver You could always try another layer of paper facing outward on the back! Applying it would work the same way and if you use several layers of the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic, you'll have a nice domed finish to the other side too.

but mod podge is not water resistant. will the paper come off after being in contact with water?
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 10 жыл бұрын
They should definitely be kept from direct contact with water. Several layers of Mod Podge will protect the paper more than just one layer, but not completely. Mod Podged surfaces can be wiped with a damp cloth for cleaning, but you are correct - the finished product will not be waterproof, only slightly water resistant. It is definitely not recommended to immerse them in water, swim or bathe while wearing any Mod Podged jewelry

Instead of gluing paper to it, could I use Alcohol Inks on the glass? And then just glue the hanger thing (not sure what it's called)? Would the Modge Podge work on this? Thank you... great video... perfect tone and very professional! :)
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 10 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks so much :) I have never used alcohol inks before, so I don't know if they will stick to glass, but I'm thinking that if they don't that you could apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the glass first and let it dry. Then try using the inks on top of that, and finish it off with another thicker layer of Mod Podge to seal it. Glue the bail (that's what it's called) on the same way. The Mod Podge usually acts as a layer that things can stick to better than glass - it's a great primer! I think it's worth a shot - sounds like an awesome idea! Will you let us know how it worked out?

+MANUELA MACHADO Hi Manuela! I don't know about real photos printed on actual photo paper but you can use anything you print on an ink jet printer IF you seal it first with Judikins MicroGlaze (to stop the ink from running). You can find it on Amazon (amzn.to/1SbIVh7) or in some large craft stores. After you seal the image, then you can proceed with the steps in this tutorial from the beginning. Hope that helps, thanks for visiting :)
