Thank you! Yes, I agree - I know there are tons of applications out there. I hate having to go to the craft store before starting (or in the middle of) a project so many times I just figure out a way to make what I need!

Great, I'm glad to hear it! I'm a huge fan of making my own components. Not only is it more cost effective, but it's good for giving your pieces a more unique look. It also doesn't hurt that you don't have to plan ahead too much as far as ordering supplies :) By the way, I don't remember if I mentioned that this will also work great with smaller wire - 16g, 18g, or maybe even 20gauge. Thanks for stopping by. Have fun!!

Exactly what I've been looking for since I started making polymer clay items a little over a month ago. I priced bales and findings for jewelry making and they are ridiculous. For something so small they ask an arm and a leg. Needless to say, I could not afford to buy bales after getting all of my polymer clays and tools to get started. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting this video up in such an easy to follow format. I will be using this technique very often, I've got a container full of handmade cabochons and items that I've already prepared for some handmade jewelry. :) I'm one happy crafter today! Happy New Year and I hope your year is full of Health, Happiness and tons of crafty goodness!

SUSIE Peterson-LaLonde Very cool! I agree that some of the findings are extremely overpriced. That's exactly what got me into making my own! Glad you found this helpful and hope you have tons of fun making bails for your polymer clay pieces!!

Yes, I have so much as stopped shopping for them all together. The ones I've learned from you are enough for my needs right now. The jewelry has been turning out great and mostly thanks to you for teaching this technique.

having the double loop on it would def be more secure for any cording going through there. I liked this video. u went very slow and steady so the process could be studied. thanks.

Thank you! That's a good point about the double loop - especially if you want to use thinner wire than 14 gauge. I like it both ways - I just go with whatever I feel like at the time! Glad you found this helpful :)

Hi there, I haven't tried any other glue besides the E6000 for this particular project. It is a good adhesive for non-porous materials and therefore works on metals, glass, and non-porous stones (like quartz, etc.)

Hi, thanks! The cabochon is about 18x22mm oval and the wire is about 1.5mm thick. I would say a wire hanger would be about the right size but the metal may be difficult to work if it is very stiff. Let us know if it works!

I tried the nail polish cabochons and I added eyeballs that I cut out of a magazine. The clear nail polish acts as a glue. I also cut out the logo from a Sunmade raisin box and made it into a cabochon.

I loved the video Mam . I just wanted to know that I have 18 guage wire, 20 guage wire and 22 guage wire . Pls can you tell me which guage wire I can use from these . Thankyou. Will be of great help. God bless. Tkcare.
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Asha! Sorry for the late reply. Thanks so much for dropping by! 18 gauge should work great, and in some cases maybe 20g (for really small pieces). Keep in mind that half hard wire is preferable (not dead soft) and especially for the smaller size wires. You want the bail to keep its shape and stay strong so half hard wire is best. If you have questions about wire hardness you can check out this article: jewelrytutorialhq.com/all-about-jewelry-wire-wire-hardness-explained/

great idea. I make my own also...they are just so expensive! The problem I have is that they tend to flip over to the back side of the pendent. I have to make wide bails to prevent this. ...Do these flip over? .......jane

I have been making these but have a question. My final loop you make keeps coming our oval instead of round like yours. Any ideas on what Ive been doing wrong. They are usable but I would love to be able to make a rounder loop. Thanks!
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 8 жыл бұрын
Hi +vicki bohrer Usually with a spiral the final shape is determined by the shape you start with that's in the very middle. If you can get a nice round loop to start with and try to follow that around as closely as possibly, that should help. In my case, the loop in the center isn't perfect but my spiral isn't very tight so there's room for correction. You should be able to tell after a couple of rounds if you're starting to get more oval than round and hopefully you can rework it to get the shape you prefer.

what was the wire u used
@JewelryTutorialHQ
@JewelryTutorialHQ 9 жыл бұрын
Catherine Taylor I used 14 gauge brass wire, dead soft. You could also use a smaller gauge, like 16, but in that case I'd recommend using half hard wire.
