I JUST realized why the song is called "**yoshi's island**" after listening to it for over a YEAR. Yoshi is a creature that CONSUMES people and turns them into EGGS. *EGGS!!!!* I could do an entire fucking analysis on the implications of the symbolism of yoshi in this context, and in fact that's exactly what i'm going to do right now actually Okay, for those who don't know, in the transgender community, the term "egg" is used to describe a person who doesn't know that they're transgender yet. When they figure it out, the egg "cracks". Yoshi, as a character, has an extremely prevalent connection with eggs throughout his games. You can probably draw a lot of connections from that alone. The biggest complication with this interpretation of Yoshi being connected with transgenderism (at least in my opinion) is Yoshi's relationship with eggs, because in the games, Yoshi is known to hatch out of an egg, which in this context would represent the realization that one is transgender, thus making Yoshi representative of the newly realized trans person. But, Yoshi is also known to eat enemies and turn them INTO eggs, which, inversely, could represent transgender repression (e.g. bullying, transphobia, and other social factors which discourages people from transitioning.) Which would in turn make Yoshi representative of transphobic influences that persuade trans people to repress. (Maybe i'm reading too far into this, idk) There's also the implication of the "Island" part of the title. Yoshi's Island is, unsurprisingly, an island populated mainly by Yoshis, so the island represents a place where many Yoshi congregate to form a community of sorts. (BEDROOM COMMUNITY TYPE SHIT??) With this in mind, Yoshi's island can represent two things depending on your reading of Yoshi's symbolic meaning; The transgender community that forms in a space populated by mainly trans people, (could be a metaphor for online transgender spaces?) ((could be further backed up depending on your reading of bedroom community)), or a society that consumes otherwise happy transgender people and turns them into eggs (forces them to repress their gender identity). @BudgieFox Noone chooses to be transgender, and even if that was possible, why would anyone? Why would you deal with all the gatekeeping, discrimination, loss of friends/family, less security in terms of job/house, not being able to travel to several countries and areas and higher chance of getting hate crimed, if you don't have to? You have to feel a really strong sense that you were born as the wrong gender, otherwise there is no benefit to it, you just have to live with all of the stuff I mentioned for nothing.
