Good to see you CD59! With the weight of the suppressor causing accuracy problems, my question is; do you think that a glass bed on the tip of the forearm might bring the barrel harmonics under better control when using the suppressor? Great bedding video, regardless that the bedding doesn't always cooperate in the "where you want/don't want it" department. Thank you and stay safe, happy and blessed my friend.
@danielteets87193 жыл бұрын
Suppressor may change point of impact due to the weight but accuracy shouldn't be affected.

Great video thank you, two questions when you were doing the tape thing did you have the recoil lug in? Also did it help tighten your groups back up? Thanks again! I'll hopefully get this done to mine before hunting season.
@cavedweller19595 жыл бұрын
Recoil lug went in during the bedding process. The rifle shot really well before bedding, I just don't consider them finished if not bedded. It will normally due 5 shots in 3/4" with 87gr V-Max bullets. Drew some deer tags & been playing with Hornady 90gr VLD-Xs, Time & weather permitting I will show you that, They have been looking good.

I'm curious as to why you bedded part of the barrel too? I have always been told that you don't want anything other than the action touching your barrel due to that wood swelling with humidity will changed the barrel harmonics. However, I can also see that it could shortens the part of the barrel that is free to move and make it easier to find a node in the barrel harmonics during load development but I'm still not sold enough to try it myself. I've been to a couple 1000 yard competitions (not as a competitor however) and I don't recall anyone bedding their barrels. Everyone was a "free float or die" in their opinions. Curious if you'd be willing to explain?
@cavedweller19595 жыл бұрын
This topic was argued and settled already in the 1960s, &70s. Glass the action and the first inch to inch and a half of the barrel, free float every thing forward. Next time your at a match, don't ask what they float, ask what they bed .kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYDSXpKJqJyUf9U

I have glass bedded two of my rifles because of you. I watch almost everything you produce. I learn more from you than most. My one question for this video is why do you want the new block. Is it because it’s steel and hard and doesn’t dent because of the recoil?
@cavedweller19596 жыл бұрын
Exactly, The big IF you ever did need to replace it, you would be wishing you had spent the money. Thanks for Watching.
@michaelkilimanjaro99266 жыл бұрын
I have shot ton with 223 and indent remained same with no play. I assume the indent may grow with larger caliber causing some play. I have not shot a lot on my 30.06. It is still tight. However, I will likely replace that one and bed it. At least I don't have to deal with it later on.

Hey great video, I went and bought the ONTARIO MARINE RAIDER BOWIE and took it in the backyard for some heavy chopping and chipped the blade from the tip to about an inch down the blade !!! They are using a 1080 carbon steel now instead of 1095 carbon steel.I don't know if it is the steel or a bad grind? What do you think?
@tjaelens4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cavedweller. Thanks for the expertise. Just wondering why you don't One Shot the screws and threads and put them back in for the drying process?
@cavedweller19594 жыл бұрын
Cuz I'm a great fan of doing it the easy way. I have done it that way, just a little more work with no benefit in the end result. Some actions I believe would be better bedded using the screws, the Ruger M77 comes to mind. Every job is a little different, you just need to think them out BEFOREHAND.
@user-no9qb6lj7c3 жыл бұрын
Great video .... just wondering will just pressing it down and using the surgical tubing give it the right hight in the stock? Is using the action screws just unnecessary
@cavedweller19593 жыл бұрын
You can go either way, the tubing is so much easier.
@madd-mattmitchell9173 жыл бұрын
Sir, why did you not let the epoxy "fill in" the 'lightening cuts' under the barrel? It would give you a solid plug under the barrel for 1/2 half of the rear lightening cut. Or will that affect the harmonics of the barrel? I mean Tikka had to have taken that into account when they cut a void in that position. Correct or not?
@cavedweller19593 жыл бұрын
You bed the action, give the first inch or so of the barrel some support. That's it, more is not better.
@jdg56822 жыл бұрын
@@cavedweller1959 This was some really good content do you have an update on weather the bedding made a difference with the can, I ran into the same problems where one day I shot 4 shots into 1/4 Moa and the next day 1.1/4 moa I think the can is maybe so heavy it causes the barrel to touch the stock somewhere when firing
@usmcsniper23105 жыл бұрын
Did the groups improve with the suppressor? I'm sure they did just curious how much. I always bed the first inch of the chamber area as well. It was that way on the M40 A-1 and it works.

@cavedweller19596 жыл бұрын
Just from observing hits through the scope, out to about 125 yards, It seems like these little bullets still have the velocity to expand. At 125 it will still roll them. Get much farther than that and it seems to just zip a hole through them with little expansion but they still give up the ghost really fast. I had a day with no/low wind and worked over a hill side from around 160-180 yards once, spring time, pups mostly. Vast majority very well anchored. That's the exception, not the rule, That said, 125 yards.

The term floating barrel does mean that no part of the barrel should be touched to allow the barrel to flex and occilate in a regular and predictable fashion.

What would be the best way to locate dog towns and get permission to hunt in s dakota?
@cavedweller19596 жыл бұрын
If you are just starting out and want to go cheap, Google Ft. Pierre or Buffalo Gap National grass lands. Offices are in Ft.Pierre and Wall S.D. Very good maps to be had for both. Any of the 5 Indian reservations in central to western S.D. also have lots of towns, will also be tribal license fees. For $100-200 per day, Google guided P-D hunts, no shortage of guide service.
