I just watched your video on the 243 tikka and could see how well the factory loads were shooting.

I have a near identical .243 in a Mossberg. Truly one of my favorite bolt actions. Can't do much hunting with it in Los Angeles (at least not legally :-) but great groupings at the range. Loves Federal & Winchester in 80 & 100gr.

Yep, ya gotta love those Tikka rifles alright! Although, my sons' Remington 700 in 243 has always shot about the same as your Tikka and with our hand loads, well, you know how hand loading does for a good rifle.... I sure enjoy your videos my friend! I know that I have gotten here late, June of 2018 and things in the land of YT are not especially well for us gun folks, but I hope you are weathering the shit storm well enough to get by alright! A Tikka is my next rifle, just haven't decided what caliber..... Thanks for a great review.

We call it Federal Blue Box too, the 150 gr 7mm Remington Mag load shoots very very well in my Blaser R-93, Good deer load. thou it's a little much for the CT white tails I shoot, I got a 7 x 57 and a 6.5 x 55 for that.

I got some of those Federal Blue 100 gr loads for which I paid $12.95 per box of 20! They shoot within one moa. Not bad for out of the box (or course the rifle used matters too).

My 300 Win Mag doesn't like those Fed blue box. I have a Tikka T3 Lite in 243 and it shoots under an inch with damned near everything I have tried. It really likes 95 grain Fed Fusions.

I have a hankering for a left handed one. I've had a Remington 788 in 243 for many moons that is a heck of a shooter. If it had the bolt on the proper side of the gun I wouldn't have a wandering eye for the Tikka.
@mikemagnum79876 жыл бұрын
The 788 Remington was known for having the fastest lock time of any rifle around! I don't know if that remains the case, but the 788 actions are good ones to build a super shooter out of!
@rgthomson12 жыл бұрын
My first 243 was a tikka and it was the worst shooter i had in my life, shot 3 moa every day Traded it back to the dealer for another one and that turned out to be the most accurate hunting rifle i ever had

*One would have to wonder why they didn't have a windage knob as they have for elevation? I actually prefer the micrometer dials for both, but with the .243, a 26" barrel, it makes all the difference!*
@luvtahandload76923 жыл бұрын
Do you need 37" of windage at 100 yds where you shoot?
@calicojack556 Жыл бұрын
I think a recoil lug that is part of a one-piece receiver is better (like they used to make); although more costly to manufacture. That being said, those Tikkas sure do shoot well (I have one), and seem to be very well made. Ruger does the same thing with their recoil lug but they use 2 lugs on their American rifle. Remington 700 (and Bergara and I think Weatherby Vanguard) has the lug attached to the receiver, but not as one solid piece.
@Simon-talks Жыл бұрын
Yep. I have a Howa 1500 in .308 and it has the recoil lug as part of a one piece receiver. Very strong, solid constructed design and efficient and a great 2 stage, crisp trigger from the factory and great barrel. It's a sub MOA .308 for me.

Nice gun, but you need a better scope. I've got a Bushnell Elite 4200 that I'll trade you for. Just kidding! In fact, I'm a little jealous of that Leupold. Sweet set-up!

I think it would be a great prairie deer combo, but for this summer p-dogging, I swapped the VX5 for a VX-3I 8-25x50. They will be on both the 243 & the 222.

Where does 243 caliber with a 95 grain bullet need to be at for a 1oo yard shot firing into bullseye at 30 yatds?
@cavedweller19594 жыл бұрын
Measure the distance--center of bore to the center of your scope. At 30 yards, you will probably be 2/3rds of that measurement low

What game are you personally comfortable taking with a 243 and at what distance? Being 243 isn’t the most powerful round out there.

I love my Tikka T3 243 but it has a tendency to do strange things when the barrel gets hot. Look out for that on the pdog towns in Summer. I've shot a few deer with it and rabbits out to 543 yards with it, it groups 1 hole with the right homeload and excellent with any factory load. I shoot 87 grain vmax for varminting and Hornady interlock 100 grain for deer.
@cavedweller19596 жыл бұрын
After seeing the accuracy with Hornady factory 75gr V-MAX, I shot the thing till hotter than you ever would normally to see if the barrel had any stress/heat deflection, POI didn't change and it will never be that hot again. Picked up a box of 87gr V-Mags for reloading, for the higher BC.

Can you explain your preference over wood? How would the stock of this tikka respond to inclement weather and POI shift? Thanks! Great shooting and a nice rifle!
@cavedweller19595 жыл бұрын
So many rifles on the market today are sporting cheap, flimsy, flexible plastic stocks. Not to be confused with high end synthetics. Your best accuracy is going to come from a stiff rigid stock, like wood, or good synthetics. I have all wood stocked rifles, shoot them year round, some for over 25 years, one over 45 years. Myself, I have never experienced POI shift from the weather. In my area, it's a non issue.

@@cavedweller1959 I used to shoot the Silver box Winchester 100gr in .243 Winchester through a Ruger 77 stainless. Farthest whitetail shot 420 give or take and 2 steps DRT. I now have a Tikka superlite in blue. I found a box of the Winchester in my crate that came from Walmart for 12 something😮. The Ruger was a 1/9, the Tikka 1/10. I'm gonna load up some Hornady 100gr Interlocks with IMR 4064, H4350 and or Superformance to try out. I've found close to my Goldilocks cal. for my area in the 6.5 needmore. 140gr running 2838 fps punching bug holes at 100 yards today. I just rebarreled it. From 100 to 1000 sometimes 1500 yards this little thing just puts them on target. I was slow to try one but now I see the allure. High bc, decent velocity and low recoil. From what I have read and discussed with others, pretty good barrel life. That all makes for a good long range target, (to me 1000 to 1500 at times), a really good whitetail round and varmints look out.
