Steps in GIC restoration 1.The tooth surface should be cleaned with a slurry of pumice with water. 2.The tooth surface is rinsed with water, dried, and conditioned with 10% polyacrylic acid for 10 seconds. 3.The tooth surface is washed with air water spray for 10 seconds and dried lightly. 4. The powder and liquid are dispensed and mixed. The material is carried to the tooth with the help of a plastic instrument. 5.A contoured matrix is used to cover the GIC. 6. Once set, the matrix is removed and the surface of the cement must be protected using cocoa butter, copal varnish or petroleum jelly to prevent desiccation or moisture contamination.

I have a question, what’s the function of silicate in gic? Does it substitute the fluoride when it leach out? Or is it carboxylate
@SaiNaveenKumarPilliPTBD183 жыл бұрын
Hi Abeer, the silica glass dissolves (once attacked by acid) thereby releasing calcium, aluminium, sodium & fluoride ions. hello doctor thank yo for amazing simple explination. I would like to ask about: 1) hydration phase : the hydration of the salts by water. from where this water from the reaction results as acid base reaction releases water?? or from already existing water ??? 2) we know GI is sensitive to water intially so we should protect it during first 24 hours. now i would like to ask about loss of water that leads to dehydration and impair curing of GI how it happen and why? 3) the cures GI have Al and Ca salts is it bind to unreacted glass particles ? or it is free in slution. ? 4)Gelation occurs at critical PH and critical ionic concentration ? what are these ?

Is it safe to use Glass Ionomer Cement if yes, what is the best Glass Ionomer cement in the Market that last far longer Thanks heaps for a nice video.
@SaiNaveenKumarPilliPTBD188 жыл бұрын
Mountana Berry Thank you. Yes GIC is the most biocompatible material available so far. We have different types of GIC indicated in a variety of clinical situations. And its next to impossible to say that one particular brand of GIC would be best for any given clinical scenario. However literature suggests that resin modified variants last longer compared to conventional materials. Hope I answered your query 👍🏻
@dr.sandeepkumar74886 жыл бұрын
Longevity of GIC depends upon followings 1. Tooth Conditioning prior restoration 2. Good manipulation 3. Fast delivery to prepared tooth. 4. Matrix protection 5. Post restoration protection 6. Finishing after 24 hours.

lecture was amazing sir.. sir i have a doubt..at last u had mentioned to use petroleum jelly n varnish to protect d cement from contamination...but will varnish reacts with GIC due to polymerization shrinkage? ???

There is no polymerization shrinkage in GIC, (ACID BASE REACTION). POLYMERIZATION SHRINKAGE HAPPENS IN COMPOSITES. PROTECTION OF GIC POST RESTORATION IS MANDATORY.
