ArcticSorbet I think the meaning of it is obviously humans aren’t capable of what’s displayed in the comic books, but they can display some elements of them, that are still explainable within our human boundaries. Even if Bruce Willis can bend steel without his bones breaking you can chalk it up as a strong man. With the split guy, you can say he unlocked certain parts of his brain when he became the beast which in turn unlocked a huge part of his muscles without feeling pain. If there are super heroes in real life, these guys would be them. Mr. Glass is another example, just an insane evil mastermind with an ailment.

I think Chris is forgetting some things about Unbreakable during this review. He says that David Dunn doesn't have many lines in Glass, but that is his character in Unbreakable. He barely speaks in that film. He is a very quiet man. Also Chris says that he isn't explored as much as the other characters in Glass. But Unbreakable was Dunn's film, Split is the Beast's film, and Glass is Mr. Glass' film. But David Dunn still has a very powerful arc in Glass. He goes from believing his powers are real, to actually being almost convinced that he is wrong, and everything can be scientifically explained. He then decides to stop the beast anyway, and tries his best, including facing his fear of water, but ultimately he was just a pawn of Glass, like he was in Unbreakable, and he met a tragic end, instead of a noble end that a hero such as himself deserved.

@Razzanonymous5 жыл бұрын
@@SharkAlien66 It's not an objective rating. If Chris gives a movie an A, that doesn't mean everyone else thinks it's an A. It's his subjective rating and is definitely not a flawed concept at all. It is actually a very effective way to differentiate movies based on how good the reviewer thinks they are. Movies that are deserving of higher grades get higher grades and vice versa. For example, Chris likes both Unbreakable and Split, but he gave them different scores. If he didn't use ratings, he wouldn't be able to give more credit to movies that are great, versus movies that are just good, in his "subjective" opinion. It's also easier for the audience to understand how good Chris thinks the movie is. Maybe he criticises a movie a lot but he believes the movie's strengths outweigh its weaknesses. It might be hard for an audience to understand that he might still love the movie, regardless of all the flaws he observed. Either way, whatever direction Chris decides to take his reviews, I'm going to still be here.

@carrotslayerx52415 жыл бұрын
Hey There I feel like it wasn’t the outcome that made people dislike the film, but rather the steps and scenes leading to that eventual outcome. Personally, I don’t feel like killing them was the right decision directing-wise, however that’s not what people have a problem with. It’s that a hulking beast was taken down with one bullet, an Unbreakable man drowned in a puddle, and a mastermind fell out of his chair(so much for super). I understand there’s a bit of poetic irony in those events but as he addresses in this video, the ending just feels underserved. The characters weren’t used to their full potential. This movie was something that many people have been waiting for and it just wasn’t what a lot of them wanted/expected. Also, as far as Shyalaman twists go, this one was kinda weak. A secret organization stops people from realizing that superpowered people exist...ok. I like that Elijah was ultimately working an angle and accomplished his goal but considering how smart he was, you’d think he could’ve thought up a plan that ended with his survival(unless he wanted to die or something). Ultimately, this movie was a huge letdown for me. I understand it had high expectations to live up to, especially with its predecessors(Split and Unbreakable) which set the bar pretty high. At least Dbs Broly was a good movie.

@heythere69835 жыл бұрын
@@carrotslayerx5241 SPOILER ALERT yeah but Bruce Willis' weakness is like kryptonite, he was weakened by the tank of water he almost drowned in and if he didnt have issues with water that affected him like that then he'd be an ordinary person when It comes to his reaction to water, but water has always been something that can easily hurt him, like superman and kryptonite. Its not that he needs a lot of water to get weakend by it. Thats why its his weakness, and Glass didnt even leave the house as a kid for a while because it was explained he is super fragile , just like how if that light was dropped on his legs it would have broken them so yea if a regular person falls of their chair onto their knees they would get hurt to a small degree, a senior citizen would def get hurt, so someone like glass who's bones break with just about anything, he is super fragile, of course he'd get hurt from falling. I think people wanted the third act to turn into the avengers. But just because this final movie took years to come about doesn't mean it needed huge events, the good story is the satisfactory ending I think. You see these characters all question who they are and then they believe in themselves and overcome that and in believing in themselves that is their full potential, to value who they are and their existence.I also think its a testament to the story that people want more and that is why they were disappointed in the story. They wanted more, but you may have wanted a certain outcome for the beast and Chris another so on and so forth everyone wants something but its Nights story and the ride he takes the viewer on is very complex. Its more about the thinking these movies than the visual. That is an incredible arc, they also have their glory now because everyone knows, this was always a more grounded story. The first two were also small scale stories. I will say, since they did prove they were super human, and her tricks didnt work, Then that means the beast did survive a deadly gunshot blast in split so why would he get wounded now. I assumed that maybe it was a special bullet when it happened. Thats the one thing I thought could have been better. I think though people just wanted to see Bruce Willis win, that's what everyone really wanted and is eluding to when they say they wanted to see more happen. - EDIT, I saw another posters comment on another review and they said the reason the bullet killed the beast was because he was softened up with that love when he got shot, he wasnt the beast when he got shot, thats actually right, makes perfect sense.

Epic, and all the actors and M. Night again; killed it making this story! I'm impressed how originally Split was a spin-off of Unbreakable, but this one is a true sequel to both of them. Truly nailing that task, and shifting enough to one style or the other when necessary. It was so good to see the evolution of David's life, and with Joseph now at their shop, the "Dunn Home Security." Plus seeing Joseph all grown up and played by the same actor was a really good surprise since it wasn't a given, since so many years had passed. David's necklace with the ring as part of his crime fighting uniform representing his love for his late wife is a nice touch too. As is the name some civilians were calling him now, "Overseer," which is my favorite of them because it has two meanings, the second and less obvious is relating to his power to see, in a sense, the wrongs someone has done. I also found it neat how Night connected the characters he played from both movies in this universe, prior to Glass, being in fact one and the same. Now, when the Horde comes into the picture and is still abducting young girls as they did a few weeks prior with Cassie, I couldn't help but get excited about when these two would clash. And it was awesome it happened once so soon in the film, and was actually a nice appetizer. Dr. staple's arguments and theories were really well written and actually did make me second guess and rethink the previous two movies for the slightest bit, but the level of how spectacular these two are, it just couldn't be. The doctor is so manipulating, and you come to really hate her, once you know what's the truth with the plot twist and how she was in on everything relating to these extraordinary people the whole time. Impressively, this is another movie you could watch the first time and get one view on it, and then the second time I have a different read on everything, especially with the doctor; how she is trying to confuse her patients and eventually get them killed if they don't stop believing in themselves. Even manipulates her whole staff or Cassie to get the Horde killed. I think the ending really works when it comes to the Beast when he turns into Kevin, Kevin who always wanted to die and says. He sees that he's in a lot of pain and yes, you could probably change it to the Beast and probably survive it, but the thing is he wanted to die, so he stayed in the light with Cassie hoping that would be his end. The ending is very emotional, it's so sad to see David struggling and Joseph realizing they had drowned his father. And although the story was very dark, it handles its levity really well, even having laugh out loud moments and finally ending in an uplifting, hopeful way where Elijah outsmarts the organization, and opens for you to contemplate what the future will be of that world. It's a 10/10!! Sidenote; the fact Mr. Shyamalan found a way to use, but also repurpose, two deleted scenes from Unbreakable for a different context is incredible! He incorporated them as flashbacks here, and to add more to Mr. Glass' tragic past and psychology as he seemed to be traumatized by the time he was helpless on the ride and got his bones broken.

I have a strong feeling that Bruce Willis' condition was already escalating during filming which likely explains his character's reduced presence in the storyline as well as the overall performance of his role. The ending, aside from the final twist, was I thought realistic and a bittersweet conclusion. What I do love about Shyamalan is how he isn’t afraid to take risks. If he decides to do away with grades entirely, it's completely fine by me. It's the quality and thoughtfulness of his commentary that keeps bringing me back for more. And I'm happy to report that it just keeps getting better and better.

The thing about Shyamalan is that he experiments so much that sometimes he create absolute greatness and sometimes utter crap and sometimes a conflicted movie. That's why I respect the guy. He is giving cinema something different than the run of the mill movies we see nowadays.

By the end I was thinking "one too many moments of The Beast bear hugging things." And. although the ending was interesting to watch, it didn't quite feel earned. Between the music and the way it was shot it came off as melodramatic for me. I had the same reaction about David Dunn being pushed into the background. Such a strong opening with David and his son, who appears to be the same actor who played his son in Unbreakable (kudos to M. Night for that) but then after successfully tracking down 'the horde', it felt like he wasn't given much else to do. His heroic energy and focus wasn't really sustained. And I also thought by not giving us the heavily foreshadowed tower scene it felt like a bit of a bait and switch. I couldn't help but think, they probably just didn't have the budget to shoot the tower scene, so they did the less expensive fight scene in the front yard of the institution. I could feel M. Night's passion for the material coming through, and quite frankly James McAvoy's performance alone, as in Split, was worth the price of admission. I felt like they spent a little too much time in the institution, or at least didn't keep it interesting enough to sustain really most of the film taking place in the institution. There's much to love here though, so I feel like if you're a fan of the other two films, and if you're let down by this one it's probably mostly because of high expectations rather than it not actually being a good film.

I did too which is why I dont understand the hate some of his movies get. Signs, great twist? No but I thought it worked fine and other than that the movie is fantastic. The village, very interesting twist that I thought worked great while also being strange.

Wow so much negativity in the comments. Chris does sound a bit tired, but I think people are calling him out because he was disappointed in a hyped movie that most people haven't seen and have been able to form opinions on it. Guys, he was so excited for this movie, he even mentioned how pumped he was in numerous videos. Seriously he's been acting exactly like this in many recent videos, but everyone calls him out on it because they wanted him to give this film a positive review.

I really enjoy your reviews, even when I don't agree with some of what you present. I do have to disagree with you about the end, I think it's bloody brilliant and really the only way to do it (imho). Sometimes I feel that reviewers just see too many films to stay objective and start pushing their own agenda/concepts over what they think a movie should be, rather than enjoy what is. This film is certainly not for everyone, but I consider it fantastic as much for its ending as for what came before. Keep up the fantastic reviews though, I understand your position even when I don't agree, you're one of the very few reviewers I care to listen to any more... thanks!

I am by no means saying change is bad thing....but it is something new and sometimes, something hard to get used to. Chris has always inspired me when it came to my love for film, and seeing how he has become disenchanted by letter grades and top 10 worst lists, I am just simply pointing out that his perception of this artistic medium has been changing over time...whether that can be seen as a good or bad thing is entirely up to you.

I remember watching The Shape of Water and loved it! I waited for Stuckman to review it and when the review came out I was very surprised that he gave it a mediocre score. Then after that it won a best picture in Oscar Award. I think Stuckman is always stuck in the past movies and always going for expectations and comparisons that he loses a good sense of reviewing films. I still like his reviews though. Beside that, this movie was great!
