The scene with humanized Celestia and Twilight as Gandalf and the Hobbit was lovely. Your artist is extremely talented.

THIS. This is why I love you Lily. You don't just hate whatever the fandom loves. You actually analyze more then some ACTUAL analysts do with such a strong sense if objectivity it's honestly hard to arguecat times.

I feel like you're the only person who actually talks sense in the fandom anymore. I barely watch mop now but I will always watch your videos because it's so interesting to listen to

Man, that Zelda comment really put things into perspective for me as a Zelda fanboy. Link is actually best portrayed when he ISN'T just a figure for the player to project onto. WindWaker's Link is legitimately the best because he has a personality. As the years go on, Zelda's writers seem more focused on pleasing the fans than giving the game a decent story. Heck, they decided that in the game where you can't rename Link and where the story was practically begging for him to be an actual person, to make him more of a blank slate than normal, almost completely because the fans would get mad if they did that. Even Aonuma's reasoning for why we can't choose Link's gender seemed more like he was quoting a comment on Reddit than an actual opinion he held. Really goes to show how fandoms should really just let the creators make their creations without begging and threatening them to make sure it goes 100% the way they think it should go.

That's always been the big problem with Zelda fans: They think the lore is this critically important thing (Don't get me started on that stupid Timeline obsession, holy shit) when it's always been half-assed at best. That's the case with any game really. If you're a die-hard fan of something and you think a certain aspect of it's lore is super important, there's a 99% chance that you're full of shit.

That "abandoning the main cast" comment made me think of the scenes from the Hobbit movies where we see what Gandalf was doing while he was away from Bilbo and the Dwarves, and how it was taken issue with for departing from the main story, especially since that stuff wasn't in the Hobbit book.

Honestly, I'm getting tired of the writers bringing NMM back in anyway. Why does every episode with Luna as a main character have to mention or allude to NMM? This is just them beating a dead horse (pun was intentional).

"But you have to eaaaarn it" "Well, Obviously Not" "The math behind changelings, love and entropy, Which someone ACTUALLY DID" That line delivery reminded me so much of Hbomberguy.

As someone who is still learning to write, it makes me worried that stuff like 'A Royal Problem' are seen as these wonderful works, because then I get discouraged from putting effort into my stories. I still write, but I question why try and work so hard to make these characters fit their roles and actually be good characters, if people just want a wad of clay to go play with. With that kind of mentality actually well written characters tend to be sneered at for being 'out of character', even when that argument makes no true sense in the first place. You see it all the time with shows like MLP, Steven Universe, Voltron, and basically every show that ever did well, and it's so tiring and dry it's basically become the white noise of character critique. It makes me happy to see people like you who can easily point this stuff out, because unlike most fans of many forms of media, you actually have the willingness to see past the fluff and sparkles to see what's actually wrong with an episode or chapter. Keep up the good work Lily, and hope that coffee tasted good! ^ - ^

"that's what happens when you care about back story than actual story"... now can you go tell Ink Rose that please.
@LilianOrchard7 жыл бұрын
Ink Rose was who I had in mind when I was talking about the obsession with lore and headcanons in both MLP and Zelda.

I don't want the show to play more off of secondary characters than the mane six. I watch the show FOR them. I can't believe that people honestly like this episode. I thought it was a dumb idea from the start. Why have Starlight help? She can't solve her own problems. I think celestia should stay as a mentor character. Daybreaker was such a fanfic moment. And thanks again show for nightmare moon. She keeps popping up for no reason.

I know A Royal Problem is beloved, but even before watching this video, I only considered it mediocre. Also Lilly I have a question. People often accuse me of "stealing another's opinions" before forming my own, when all I'm actually doing is agreeing with somebody who happens to have an opinion very similar to my own. And it happens all the damn time. How do I deal with this without pulling out my hair?
@LegendaryOverfiend3 ай бұрын
Rare moment where I actually agree entirely. Bronies care way too much about “muh lore” and the tirek fight was a mistake

I was wondering why Royal problems rubbed me the wrong way, I thought it was just the cringy celestial oc (they totally stole it from elements of cringe)

The story and characters got so boring I only watch the episodes YOU say are good because otherwise it's a waste of my time. (And you're good at pointing out which ones are good)
