We start this bowl with color overlay, a layer of clear and a black cane roll up. Glass canes are made by taking colored glass and stretching it to create long lines of color. All of our glass is made in the sunny panhandle of Florida.
If you'd like to learn more about how cane is made check out this video:

Thank you so much for watching our video, I hope you enjoyed the process.

Took a class years ago to see if this was something I could do, it was not! I love watching and seeing the beautiful things you make and its so much more impressive knowing what it really entails, much respect and admiration to the whole crew, and much love and scritches to that gorgeous cat!

I'm a furniture maker and watching your work is very satisfying. I have never worked with glass but theres a resonance that seems to be common in all creative processes. Grateful.

Luv the vids. Keep them coming. That's coming from a college kid who had first, second and third degree burns from glassblowing (not as good as you all). Love it and wish I could do more.

That wobble kinda made me panic for a second. I’ve seen you do a couple of other pieces that start out like this but I just wasn’t expecting that result. That is such a beautiful piece! ❤❤

Does anyone feel as pleased to feel the softness of molten glass as I do?

I just love glass and have a couple of nice pieces I've picked up over the years. The process reminds me of forging damascus steel, where the both the shape of the starting steel and how its folded influences the outcome, and you don't really know the final outcome until the end. I was trying to follow how the rods were being shaped to see if I guess what the final effect would be, and I didn't realise you changed which end you were holding the glass. Fascinating. How long did this actually take start to finish?

Nice work! At 13:00 you use different jacks and it looks like you're pressing down on the inside of the bowl. What is that tool called, and what is it used for? Thanks!

There is an air bubble in it. Is that okay?

There is, and that’s alright. It didn’t mess with the stability of it, but usually you don’t want bubbles in your glass art.

certainly a lovely bowl but what the heck is up with wasting all that cane on the bottom of the rollup? could have made a nice pint glass out of that much material plus a gather lol

Great question lol originally I was going to try to make this a “wigwag” bowl but it just didn’t work out. I’ve never tried that technique before but I’ve seen people set it up like this. The idea is to leave the extra cane off the end and blow the base out of the bottom and into that space where the canes were hanging off. I couldn’t get the base hot enough to move after the roll up plus a few things went wrong so I just got rid of it and moved on.

@@GlassGoof basically in boro you either draw lines on with rods of solid color or do a lampwork version of a rollup of which theres several methods then twist and heat sections. i can think of several ways to improve that switchback technique but even exactly as they did it, its pretty amazing. i wanna do a reticello of two wig wags like they did, i think that would be amazing
