Glasspack vs Neighbor Hater vs Flowmaster Flowfx Dodge Ram 5.9 Magnum

My 2000 Dodge Ram has had many different exhaust notes since I've owned it. I figured I should share the experience with you guys! Feel free to ask me any questions!

Finally a proper sounding ram! These dodge motors have that distinct deep raspy crackle sound thats obnoxious with the wrong exhaust set up. Especially the 4.7, this sounds perfect!

Gotta love a 2nd gen, especially a clean one. I have a 98 single cab stepside with a 5.2l magnum running a 3 inch exhaust pipe, gutted catalytic converter (done by previous owner) and a magnaflow muffler with a 4.5" exhaust tip, she sounds pretty good, it makes noise but it's got a good tone without being obnoxiously loud, once you hit 4th gear and the truck idles down you hardly hear it in the cab it just gives you a deep throaty growl and I'm very happy with it. Of course cold starts sound phenomenal and if you want someone to hear it trust me they will, but it still has that deep throaty V8 growl that I absolutely love, idk I guess I'm probably one of the few 17 year olds who doesn't adore straight pipes. Anyway I dig the truck man.

Loved the video! I had a 91 Chevy K1500 WT with a 5.7L, I had my uncle help me install this brand-new Heartthrob cat back Dual exhaust what he had failed to mention is that he had cut the cat off and just welded the 3" extension pipe in its place and ran it that way. It was 3" from the Y pipe into a 3" extension pipe to 2.5" and then for the last 18" it was 1 and 3/4" with tips. I was thoroughly impressed on the sound of it, and it did indeed pop when revved past 2000 RPM but I was impressed that the cab noise and overall noise driving down the road wasn't a droning sound.

My 3rd gen 5.9 has stock cat into a flowmaster 40 series into a turn down. It turns down right where yours does. I really like it. Your exhaust sounds really good.

Running a flowmaster with a cherry bomb tailpipe worked out perfect toned it down just enough no cats 4.2 6 cylinder 98 Ford f150 4-speed find it hard to keep my foot out of the radiator

got a 03 Dakota 5.9 R/T with high flow cats and 2 flowmaster flowfx glasspack style mufflers, its pretty rowdy and wraps a bit, was thinking of adding a dual in dual out muffler behind them. Overall im fine with the way it sounds right now though.

It will definitely calm it down a bit if you ever get to that point. Will still sound awesome. Just a bit more of a mature volume from my experience

I kinda came to the same conclusion after having a single 3in in dual 2.5in out cherry bomb extreme on my 95 ram 5.2 v8...it doesn't sound that far off from the neighbor hater lol. A guy years ago had a "magnaflow performance muffler" video of a 5.2 2nd gen ram but I think he delisted it since I can't find it searching for it now, I may end up going with something like that, something with a throaty v8 growl sound if you want it to but without being god awfully loud. I'll get to it one day, other things have priority, and the truck is just a backup occasional hauler these days to our much more efficient newer 4cylinder commuter car. The truck originally had some knockoff very quiet muffler dumped but due to the cat being gutted, there were really stinky exhaust fumes that'd collect under the truck area, if I ever had the window down in a fast food drive thru I had to have choked some poor kids working lol. I'm considering a side exit before the passenger rear tire as a cost cutting measure, the truck was stolen several years ago and they must have backed into something, the bumper is a little dented and the driver side straight back exhaust pipe got scrunched some, a bit of the cherry bomb is bent now and at least 1 exhausted hanger is bent too and I need to at least take a hammer to the pipe, it vibrates the bed occasionally due to being pushed up against it. Decisions decisions...from a purely cheap frugal standpoint, a glasspack with no pipe after it whatsoever would sound pretty good and push the exhaust straight back instead of dumping it towards the ground where it'll congregate and spread out all around the sides of the truck causing the chokeout problem I talked about above lol...

Neee some more Idle 🤙🏽 i have a flowmaster 40 I believe with cat and 2 exit exhaust out the back in my 5.9 but it’s too quick and i only threw it on because times were tough and i ripped it from my old truck I think i Like the set up ot definitely sounds good i think i might go for it too but i might just delete the cat entirely and if i do all that ill want headers and thats a lil extreme for an old farm truck with 150k😂

The 360 is an easy engine to get sounding good. All you gotta do is let it breathe. Dual 3 inch pipes to your desired muffler with no cats.

Good video, I'm looking for a exhaust system for my 99 dodge with the 360. I'm wanting to restore the truck and after it's done I don't want it to be obnoxiously loud but still sound good at the same time

Exactly what I wanted but learned the hard way. I love the tone of the neighbor hater which is why I got it, and adding the flowmaster really calmed it down to just let the tone be there without it being too loud. Pretty cool learning that you can pick a tone and add another muffler with different performance characteristics to get the volume right. Hope you get yours sounding how you want!

I have a 5.9 Dakota. Headers, stock Y pipe and cat, with a 40 series flowmaster dumping in front of the axle. It's obnoxious inside the cab. I just bought a FlowFX and a tailpipe. Hopefully it sounds good

They’re method 305s with a 0 offset! Method offers a flush center cap that I currently run in my tundra with the same wheels. If you order the wheels I’d go to a local wheel and tire shop and have them order those too. They look much better in my opinion

Exhaust is the most subjective thing about customizing and YOU are your biggest critic. I spent 2 years bouncing back and fourth between muffler sound clips on YT. As you with a Magnum they are naturally a deeper exhaust note with more throaty overtones (not to get too technical) The videos I heard they either sound like the way you described the Neighbor hater that pop/clap noise or they sound hollow tinny and just worse than what I had as stock lol Read on the Dodge Ram/Dakota forums that most were running the normal brands Flowmaster etc. But one name kept getting brought up, Spintech, "Chambered" but not really chambered. Been running their 6000 Pro Street series single 2.5" side exit since 2021. Has that off-road trophy truck circle dirt car sound because thats where these mufflers were used on back in the late 1980s and 90s.

Idk, that neighbor hater and no cats sounds perfect, of course my 2 rigs have true dual 8 inch glass packs and the other has a flowmaster super 10 dumped right under the backseat so im a fan of loud 😂

Just put a super 10 on my 2001 5.9 I used to have a 97 5.9 with the 40 And for some reason this 2001 with the super 10 is not even half as loud maybe he has a clogged cat ?

So I'm not to sure what exhaust I should get yet. I have a 2001 5.9 v8. But I want it Loud but not obnoxious. But I want to be able to get up on it and be pretty loud. I'm 16 and I'd like to know anyone's opinion.

Theres many different ways you can go about getting that sound! Don’t over think it though. My set up isn’t perfect and I figured it out by trial and error but it still sounds awesome. I know that’s not brand or muffler type advice but if you aren’t sure about it, just try something you think will sound good. If it doesn’t sound like what you want it to, change it or do what I did!

I'm thinking about doing something similar too my 4.8 truck, you think a 210 ish ranged cam with a neighborhater with a carven TR would be tolerable? I'd love to have a semi quiet idle but a loud asf scream on the top end if possible

method nvs used to be the name of wheels they went to M300's just look up method race wheels you'll find them.... and those are general grabber all terrains pretty good tire with like a 55,000 mile warrenty.

If anyone wants to see or hear clips of my 1998 ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9 let me know. I got long tube pace setters with 4" off-road y-pipe to a 4" inlet flow master 44 to dual out 4" slant tips out the corners of the bumper and she sounds great swapped out stock rockers to some Harland sharp roller rockers 1.7/1 and added holly performance throttle body short ram intake from Spectre. Repainted the whole truck new front axle and fresh rear end with fresh transmission.

I have a 95 neon with a 2.0 dohc with large cams and I'm running a neighborhater with no cat to a side exit. It is far too loud and I definitely regret buying the muffler. It sounds good but it's just way too loud. I'm debating on putting a glasspack in front of the neighborhater to chill it out a little. I wanna go full throttle but I literally can't lol.

I wasn’t around for that so I’m not sure what happened then, my stepdad passed which is how I got the truck so he’s not here to explain that part. The engine light comes and goes due to that exact problem. Haven’t had any other issues other than that. I haven’t tackled that part yet but I’ll get it sorted out here soon

I liked the sound but I knew the potential it had if I got the actual volume down with a deeper tone. Adding the flowmaster did exactly what I was hoping it would. Still happy about that

@@cameroncribb761 there’s many ways to get it loud, I’d recommend getting something that isn’t completely ear drum destroying. I also remember my first truck which was exactly that lol. I will say keep the cat, and get a high flow performance muffler, but I also say do what makes you happy!

I have a chambered exhaust (thrush welded from advance auto) gutted cat and it sounds similar to yours at 2:44. I think Ineed to add the glasspack style like you did. Yours has a nice "tuned" sound!
