Random thing: It is apparently possible to win a sword clash with a glavenus in ultimate. I accidentally managed to slice his tail off using a valor spirt blade when he did his spinning tail bite attack. My sword collided with his tail mid attack and his tail got sliced off and he fell over. Never going to ever do that again but it looked really cool.

I remember clashing with its glowing tail slam with a forward slash/draw attack (which became the tornado slingshot forward move in demon mode) using DB's in LR. Hearing that crunchy part break sfx and watching its tail catapulting in the air while thinking "damn, did i just pull that off?" was a feeling i wouldn't ever forget.

I really like how Glavenus kind of parallels Greatsword hunters. IT uses a large blade that requires regular upkeep, is clad in very hard armor, is very mobile when not using its weapon, and sometimes uses explosives to deal even more damage. Really feels like it was conceived as nature's answer to the hunter.

Glav's fighting style is more akin to a longswords IMO, with quick stabs and overhead slashes, and his spin2win move looks somewhat like a spirit combo roundslash finisher.

@@FalseRed7 I'm not sure who would win, Glavy or Brachy. As much as I love both, I can't decide. Both are expert fighters, far greater than other monsters. Brachy is greatly talented and skilled in fighting, plus he has explosive slime and obsidian armor, not to mention he's incredibly fast. Glavenus is considered the smartest Brute Wyvern, and is talented in using his blade, utilizing it and grinding it to store heated magma in his throat. I'm not sure what would win, a giant heated blade, or a ferocious explosive punch. I guess we'll just wait for Iceborne and hope they clash to find out who truly wins.

Beat him in the first encounter. Unlike the other 3 flagships I was prepared for the fight knowing it was bound to happen like the other 3. Hearing its fantastic theme motivated me to finish him. It went down to the wire but managed to put it down and it felt amazing. Great theme, great monster, great fight and that's all I could want as a hunter.

I think Lagiacrus did run away, I forgot if Gore Magala did so yeah I think you're right. But here yeah you could win but unless you did guild quests to get your HR up it would be a long fight cuz you wouldn't have access to a good dragon weapon to kill him very fast with. Took me about more than half an hour to limp and another 10 mins to finish him off. If I went in with a trap I wouldn't cut down a good 10 mins instead of him running away over and over again. Not the hardest fight but went he went down I used up all mega potions so it felt great haha.

So did I. I was using aerial gunlance, which I discovered is really effective due to his heavy attacks with fairly long openings. After the quest, an npc told me that there hadn't been any more sightings of it. I thought, of course there weren't, I killed it. Are you thick?

I think that glavenus may actually have his AI programmed to walk around traps in the first encounter. I put down a trap when he limped and he seemed to juke it. It could be that my trap placement generally is terrible though.

A friend of mine tried to cap a tetsucabra and it limped past the trap 3 times in one hunt. Well, 2 times he went past it and the third time tetsu hit him into another area as he got in the trap and the trap died by the time he got back. I think sometimes monsters know and are just dicks.

There's a quest in GU that you'd like. Blade Blazing Brightly Black is essentially a hyper Glavenus with massive boosts to damage, size and health. He's pretty much Hellblade EX Lite (and actually has more health than Hellblade EX too)

If its the island theme, then lots of monsters in the area have that theme, its not designated to a single monster. The only monsters with there own themes are the elder dragons with the exception of kirin, brachy, zinogre, tigrex, gammoth, glavenus, astalos, mizutsune, and a whole lot of others, not including rathalos or lagiacrus.

Interesting facts about Glavenus, courtesy of the Unnatural History Channel: 1. They are quite intelligent for brute wyverns. Their movements in combat clearly indicate a level of cunning that others of their order lack - they use side hops, feints and other such maneuvers common to trained fighters. Brachydios may also be of similar intellect, although it employs its pounders. 2. The tail is not only a weapon, but likely a show of a Glavenus bull's fitness as a mate, as well as the quality of its territory - the male Glavenus with the biggest, toughest and possibly shiniest tail is going to get the most chances to mate - after all, they can overcome any challenger and have access to the best quality ores for coating and sharpening their tails. 3.Glavenus' rooting for ores creates an unintentional side benefit for any environment it lives in - by slashing up rocks and digging for minerals, it engages in bioturbation - mixing the soil, breaking up sediment and fixing nitrogen into it, allowing new plant and fungal life to take root. 4. Glavenus mothers lay only one egg per breeding season, and thus they may devote an extensive period of time caring for the chick - at least more than other monsters besides the Raths. They may also keep the egg inside them for longer periods if conditions for laying are bad, and the resulting egg may grow to be huge relative to the mother, similar to how kiwis lay eggs up to 1/3 the size of their entire body. 5. Glavenus chicks may need to be taught how to use their tails from their mothers, similar to how elephant calves have to learn how to use their trunks and may get that knowledge from their mother (and possibly other relatives). This means that Glavenus may have cultures, when defined as "the arrays of behavioral traditions inherited through social learning".

When I heard of the blade sharpening sounds coming from the forest, I didn't think much of it. "What's the worst that could happen? A cool cutscene followed by the village chief and the guild gal telling me to run away from the flagship? Please." I grabbed my usual potions, some pickaxes and bugnets. Grabbed a level 1 Warhammer too. I started the quest. That's when I spawned in front of it. I have to say, that was one of the most intense battles in MH I've ever had, having to learn a flagship with underpowered equipment and a weapon with no block. 48 minutes in, 2 carts, no healing items, all parts broken but no limbing. I had to finish the quest. Passed with 30 seconds left. I returned with a full pouch and a Petrified Lance Level 3, and unupgraded R. Ludroth armor. It's 40 minutes in and I've seen no limping. 2 carts and no resources. Only a trap and 8 tranqs. I consider giving up, but I accidently pass the Dinovaldo. It roars, and I take a few jabs at it. It staggers... and begins to limp away! I plant the trap, and cap the 3* Dinovaldo. Honestly one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in gaming. I used the same items and equipment for the rest of the 3* Fated Four (swapping out my unupgraded R. Ludroth armor for unupgraded D. Hermitaur when fighting Raisex and Gammuto, along with my Pertified Lance for a Level 3 Iron Lance). I felt highly accomplished (and suffered extreme headaches afterward which I don't normally get under any circumstance), but had to quit for a while because I had no honey left and I hadn't unlocked it for the farm yet. Until the Resource DLC came out, a real lifesaver. I hadn't felt this way since I beat the Jaggia Menace Deviljho with Low Rank Duramboros and an Undertaker (then farming Deviljho with Low Rank armor and making Deviljho armor as my next set (which I didn't figure out how to get Deviljho Saliva until I already had 10 Deviljho Gems (I had gotten pretty lucky in that sense, sometimes getting 2 or 3 Gems in 1 quest))). I know there are higher achievements, which excites me. It just goes to show; dreams do come true :)

I'm not sure if anyone notice this but... whenever he's about to do the leap tail slam attack, he start out by shooting the explosive gel on the ground somewhere which when explode create huge smoke that covers him, then he proceed to do leap tail slam. I find that small detail of him to be very intelligent because I think what Glav is doing is he created a diversion, blocking the view of a hunter only to slam him with a sudden gigantic sword out of no where. He got me with that attack when I first fought him. I seriously thought he missed the shot, and then I got hit in the face. Truly an amazing monster!

Supposedly it's the most intelligent Brute Wyvern, and the only one that shows parental care behavior. Also considered flat the smartest wyvern right after Garuga. The first moment I saw him I fell in love pretty much lmao Protip to fighting this guy: Go Adept. I main Hammer so combining Adept w/ Hammer made my life so much easier. Problem is, I finished online first before I got to him in the Village, so the "final showdown" was more like any other quest. Considering how Carapaceons were as important as Pelagus(Fanged Beasts) back in 2nd gen and the fact that Capcom haven't made another Carapaceon monster since 2012.... They REALLY should have went for it. Piscine Wyverns and Fanged Wyverns also need some monsters in their classifications.... I loved this theme so much, I always tried to mount Glavenus whenever the song got really intense. Stabbing a giant dinosaur with a fire sword tail and holding on to its back for dear life as it roars is unsurprisingly epic as hell, and the theme does this justice. I really hope they bring Glavenus back in Monster Hunter World, along with his theme, but remastered. I can see why they wouldn’t cause of the whole fated four thing but if they brought any of the four to World, please bring back Glavenus.
