How you do for maintain curved proportionally about the frame ? It look very nice. In my school we work with very simple machines.. neksia not do very much position.. and i think my instructor is old and doesn’t know to use all the possibilities. How you learn your machine possibilities ?

what's the weight difference between glass lens and a high index plastic lens of the same prescription? I'm -10 and would love to try glass but hear it's heavy and uncomfortable for long wear

Glass is heavier. If you have -10 then it's best to have plastic lenses for work or around the house, and a glass pair for 'best'

My understanding (and I'm not an expert on this particular subject) is that the refractive index of optical plastic is increased by adding sulphur, which adversely affects clarity. Therefore a lens with a higher index wouldn't meet international standards, or perhaps they just can't keep adding sulphur for some reason. But 1.76 exists, and you can go up to 1.9 in glass.

The higher the index of plastic lenses (in the technologies current state), the worse the constringence, that is, the lenses ability to keep all the wavelengths of light together. Basically a colour fringing effect. The higher the prescription the more noticeable the effect, which can become detrimental to the wearer at high powers. A number of high prescription wearers don't achieve 20/20 (6/6 here in Australia), so it can be somewhat counter intuitive if it has an adverse affect on clarity.

The refractive index comes from the jewelry industry; 1.67 and 1.74 would be fine lead glass crystal; Swarovski. 1.90+ would be Sphene (Titanite). 2.417 is diamond. 2.65+ is moissanite. I highly doubt that scientist can ever replicate the refractive index of diamonds, and moissanites in plastic. I'm pretty sure that they can replicate Sphene (Titanite) in glass.

If you can answer Matthew’s questions, Robert please… My guesses: Curve: so the frame doesn’t splay out too excessively Tilt: distributing the thickness of the bottom

The curve function is also useful for making the thickness appear more uniform when the frame curve isn't the same as the front curve of the lens.
