I didn't like either of those guys for Marley, but Ryder was marginally better than Jake on the show but Blake was horrible to Melissa, he was abusive and violent. I skip most of his scenes now

I think they didn’t want to repeat the Finn and Rachel thing as Ryder and Marley were supposed to be second generation Finn and Rachel. I do prefer Marley with Ryder though.
