I love how they show a transformation in glee however I don’t understand why they felt the need to do this. With other characters yes, but Coach Beiste?? Coach Beiste’s character basically showed how it’s okay to be a woman with masculine traits and features?? I know many women who relate to her. They should’ve chosen someone else to transition, because Coach Beiste was inspiring as a woman. With all due respect, sometimes Glee should’ve left characters alone the way they were!

Agreed. She cried as she put lipstick on cause people wouldn’t treat her like a lady. She stayed in that abusive marriage because he was the only man who made her feel feminine. I don’t know if they got new writers or something but the season two writers had a completely different idea in mind for this character. Your right. Maybe they could have introduced a new transitioned character or someone transitioning where it would have been more organic. I’m actually kinda irritated at this.

This scene is weird and frustrating because on the one hand it's almost what I want a trans story to look like - supportive (if over the top) friends, being accepted, living his true life. But on the other hand, it makes no sense when we take into account all of Beiste's other storylines which were very much about how it's okay to be a masculine woman. Both storylines are great individually but smashing them together simply doesn't work.

I simply don’t like the way they addressed this, cuz sure it’s completely amazing they wanted to show a trans-male story but with Beiste? Part of the charm and what we all loved about the character is that it showed us that women can be more masculine but still being comfortable in their skin but then all of a sudden they decide that that storyline wasn’t working anymore so they made it about a trans person, don’t misunderstand me im completely supportive to the lgbtq+ community, it’s just that they took this iconic character that really showed us a difference and went all way to the easy path, discarding an amazing plot for an amazing character that showed us that we can all have different styles and still being respectable and feeling good with ourselves

at the end of the day some of y'all are saying the exact same things that family members say to trans people. "you being trans doesn't make sense", "you're ruining who you are", "this can't have been your choice, you must have just been influenced by all this pride stuff and you wanted to fit in", "you said all this stuff about wanting to be more feminine, you can't be a man" like being trans doesn't always make sense in a perfect wrapped bow, sometimes things are contradictory, most likely out of them desperately trying to be something that they're not. And to the people saying it's bad the show took a masculine woman and make them into a trans male, there are a lot more examples in media of masculine female characters who show that it's okay to be masculine than there are characters who are series regulars that go through a transition, it is much more uncommon, so pragmatically it's way more beneficial to show this rarely shown message, especially at the time where there were very few trans characters in media at all. Audiences got to know beiste as a woman and then learned to adapt to him being a man, and the fact that so many people can't accept the character as he is even to this day is proof that we could benefit from more character arcs like this in media. and for the people who are saying "well they should've shown him realizing he was trans and all the evidence and everything" again in real life, when someone comes out as trans, you are very likely going to be hit with it rather than slowly introduced. we were hit with it and while some people were accepting, so many demanded evidence and reasons why. like is this how you would treat a trans person coming out?
@taramcgettrick84643 жыл бұрын
I agree. I wasn't too sure of the storyline at first but after reading about trans peoples opionions on it I came to realise that it's fine. I'm not transphobic I am nonbinary (closeted) and while it was a bit of a shock at first I got used to it. If Sheldon's a man he's a man and perhaps he wanted to be feminine before he came out due to internalised transphobia but over the years he began to embrace his true self and got to be in a body he feels more comforatable in and also we get to see people coming out/transitioning later in life and not just 15-25 year olds. There also is a lesson in that and I think this was one story line Glee handled very well imo

Yeah but her character went from "deep down I'm just an ordinary girl" to this. She wasn't trans before this season. She was actively fighting for her own femininity throughout the series. This was disappointing, not because the character shouldn't be who they are, but because the whole point of this character was to break the norms of what "femininity" means. I'm all for the storyline with Unique since she was trans to begin with but why Beiste? When Beiste was a woman, she was strong, independent and confident with herself and never tried to fit in as "one of the boys." Why did she get a storyline about being trans? It never made sense to me and just felt like the writers pulled it out of their asses JUST for the ratings and used it as some plot twist that was never needed, it always felt rushed and forced upon as if she was always secretly trans. I don't remember her saying anything in past seasons where she was uncomfortable with who she was and her gender. There's no such thing as a tomboy or masculine woman in the show's universe? Some of the shit they've pulled was stupid and pointless but this one takes the damn cake.
