A little-known Speyside distillery's 12-year expression is compared to its earlier (and much differently labeled) 10-year release. Thanks to Patron Sain Mike Allen for the bottle. Praise be.

For the story of Whistle Pig, it was Episode 90 - Noah's Mill. I just happened to have come across that video in the same day as watching this earlier where you asked for what video that was in.. I think I watch you guys too much... So I had to comment. Too funny! Love you guys! Although, you guys make me spend all my money on whiskey.. So, actually, I hate you guys.. In all seriousness, I will specifically search your videos for purchases I am thinking of making or have already made just to see your references. Yes, for notes AND nerdy stories/dad jokes/ball busting and/or otherwise shenanigans. Very much appreciate you guys, keep up the awesome "research"! 😉

Just letting you guys know, your contagious enthusiasm for whiskey has transformed me into a Whiskey lover! I got the very last bottle of Green Spot from my local store and loved it! I also was lucky enough so snatch a bottle of Lagavulin Distillers Edition! cannot wait to try it out! Much love from Quebec Canada!

The last comment made me want to share with everyone a story about my dad and whiskey. My dad didn't drink scotch that often but he would partake now and again when a friend would come over. For Christmas when I was 24 I decided to buy him a nice bottle of scotch. At the time I knew nothing about whiskey and drank only beer. Choosing the bottle, I wanted to get something that was a bit special, something that had a little "wow" factor and something that would give him a little pride when he explained that his son got it for him. I decided on a bottle of glenfiddich 30. It came in a nice wooden box. I put it inside a box about 10 time its size and surrounded by packing peanuts. The idea was that he would get frustrated and make a big mess but be rewarded at the end. It was just the kind of thing that would piss him off, and simultaneously make me and everyone else laugh. Unfortunately he had a heart attack on Christmas eve and died before he got to open it. I then had to open the box and deal with the mess, all the while I was thinking how he would have been laughing at the irony. At his funeral I poured a little for all his brothers and sisters (he was the oldest of 12) and my cousins and we had a toast to him. Even though at the time, all I could taste was the alcohol, that whiskey will always hold a place in my heart. Cheers to you, Dad

Weird - driving into work this morning I was listening to an old Robert Heinlien novel in which the main character's favorite drink was Glen Grant. I thought to myself - I wonder if that still exists. It's like the universe is trying to tell me something. Thanks for the review boys!

Little known? Nonsense. But then I'm in Scotland :-) Glen Grant was the first single malt I ever tasted... many years ago. It was probably a 5 y.o. which IS hard to find here now. Celebrated my 50th with a glass of 25 y.o.

Even down here in South Africa, it's very accessible. Was one of my first whiskies I actually started to enjoy. Immense value for money, even the very budget ones. Was also my wife's gateway into whisky. Said it was the first whisky she had where 'Gasoline' was at least the third thing she thought of! Now she's all about high proof bourbon and Islay. My work here is done.

I myself just got into rye whiskey, specifically Balcones Rye that I found at my local state store. I've seen the brand mentioned on several of the Whiskey Vault videos, and I must say, for someone who enjoys a sweeter whiskey, the Balcones Rye turned me into a believer of rye whiskey. This could all be in my head, but I feel like the whiskey changes flavors several time, all in the span it takes for me to finish a single glass. Notes of coffee, nougat, camp fire... it's an adventure of flavor profile.

So the glen grant 10 has been my favorite scotch I've had so far, and I have tried many, but the packaging it came in was labeled Gordon & Macphail, so I always thought that was the name of the scotch 😄. Anyone know why they are also on the label?
@tomw49623 жыл бұрын
Gordon & Macphail are an independent bottling company (as well as distillery owners) it's likely your 10 year old Glen Grant is one of their bottlings and not an official distillery release. I could be wrong but I don't believe Glen Grant has ever been owned by G&M. Hope that helps mate!

If you can find some Bruichladdich at a bar somewhere, you can give that a shot. The sweetness is almost reminiscent of Captain Crunch. Very much a “cereal grain” sweetness, rather than any kind of oaky vanilla or sherry sweetness.

Can you guys please try either the Stauning rye whisky, or the Stauning heather whisky. the whiskys are from Denmark, which is know for having really good rye. The Stauning distillery is also making whisky like they did in scotland in the old days. they have invented a machine specifically so they can use floor malting for their malt, they also still use open flames to heat up the pot stills, as well as keep using small, potstill instead of big mass producing potstills. The heather whisky is especially interesting as they use heather to smoke the malt, which gives the whisky a special kind of sweet smoky flavour. You can find them on here: www.thewhiskyexchange.com/
