Sublime, another time and place! Rare, this level of subtlety. One of my favourite violinists!

I met Kevin Burke. Took a fiddle lesson from him. It was like Einstein trying to explain general relativity to a 1st grader. However, he did have a full archive of funny stories and great tips for the novice. He is a very gentlemanly and kind fellow. As for the cat, mine used to leave the room whenever I picked up the fiddle. Now they stick around for awhile. Its pipes that get them scattering now.

That's just so nice. I love the speed at which he played. It really allowed him to get the best out of the tune, and he sure knew how to do it.

Only Kevin can make the rear end of a horse scraped of the inside of a cat sound so sweet even cats don't mind.

Very nice playing. This is before - I think - Michéal Ó Domhnaill got his terrific Lowden guitar. Burke has been one of my inspirations - along with Tommy Peoples - for my Irish fiddle playing. Neat and beautiful...

A set including this tune by Kevin Burke with Ged Foley on guitar is on iTunes, search for it under "The Roscommon Reel/McGovern's/Fred Finn's" . It's called "McGovern's" in that set. Ged lived for a while in SE Ohio and played a fine fiddle (at least for our area) at many Columbus Ohio sessiuns in the 90's.

I looked at the insert to the tape of "Promenade" and sure enough it is also known as "Lafferty's Reel". I heard them do "Pigeon On the Gate" along with that tune.

originally titled Glen of Aherlow by its composer Sean Ryan, PJ. Hayes and Paddy Canny temporarily named it 'Lafferty's' - after pianist Bridie Lafferty - on that early recording they did with her.
