Last year about this time I took my son to see Mr. Sobel present a drum clinic here in St. Louis. Following his awesome demo and Q&A from the sold out event there was a meet and greet open to everyone. I was so impressed that Glen made time for everyone in that long line for autographs, photos, and one-on-one conversation with kids of all ages. He stayed until everyone got to meet him. Finally ... he was rushed out the door to make it to sound check for the evening performance of Alice Cooper. Super nice. Accommodating. Absolutely a class act! My son still talks about the memorable autumn afternoon when he got to meet Glen Sobel. Priceless.

Thanks for this, Nick, Glen IS my favorite drummer now and I am so glad he is with Alice Cooper. I love his attitude, his endless skills, and love the lessons and tips he shares with the rest of us.

what gives away the double bass trick is the reso head not 'shimmering' and reflecting the lights every kick hit...

To many drummers that don’t need triggers are using them, I love how Dave Lombardo doesn’t use them and he plays seriously good fast paced double bass, more acoustic drums please
@dirtydave26915 жыл бұрын
He doesn't use any damping on any of his drums either.

I know perhaps my comment comes across wrong I was just happy to see another drummer using proper acoustic drums instead of the horrible trigger sound that seems to be taking over in the metal world At one time it was only a few really hardcore speed and death metal bands that were using them on the bass and sometimes the snare but slowly it’s creeping into all metal and in my humble opinion it’s the worst thing that you can do in metal And I referred to dave Lombardo because he’s in his fifties and he still is one of the best thrash metal double bass drummers on the planet In the quest for more speed a lot of feel has been lost

Kind of lame that he says he's using a double kick pedal so he can have the hihat pedal right next to it. Those legless hihat stands have been around forever. You can snug it up right next to the single bass pedal if he used 2 singles. Just look at where his slave pedal is. Right where a single pedal would be mounted to the kick. It's more likely he's using the double pedal actually to have the same kick sound. That's why drummers usually do it. Some just prefer the way a double pedal responds because they are used to it.
@tommyrose5534 жыл бұрын
I just came across this video and was getting ready to leave my comment but you said exactly what I was going to say but I can't stand it when I see a double bass kit in the drummer's using a double pedal and then again like you said he discusses the legless hi-hat stand man that's been around for decades like you said.

The 2 kick 1 pedal setup is stupid....his excuse is ridiculous
@hannes17345 жыл бұрын
Most sound engineers cannot handle 2 bass drums properly. Also, that's 20 more lugs to tune everyday. On some live recodings of bands who use 2 bass drums you hear that they sound different from ech other or even have different volumes.
@crazyjoedavola54305 жыл бұрын
@@hannes1734 - I understand, I've played the drums for 20 years both double bass and single bass drums. Why have the other bass drum there if you're not using it? For the look of it? It's just stupid to me....and his excuse was even more stupid. You can get a different sound too on a double kick pedal from the slave beater not hitting in the middle of the head. Learn to tune
@badwolfsat54 жыл бұрын
I agree. I said the same thing. He could have had the same hihat placement with 2 single pedals. It's about getting one kick sound. End of story. He may be used to a double pedal as well. I don't care if a drummer uses a double pedal with 2 kicks for looks. Just don't claim it's because of hihat placement.
