Glen And Mado

Glen And Mado

Күн бұрын

We continue to explore the northern point of New Zealand, giving our first impression of Kerikeri and Kawakawa and fully absorbing as much of the area has to offer. We are here to enjoy the local and authentic lifestyles and always give you our honest thoughts on areas we explore.
We also tried fried Oysters for the first time!
Unfortunately, we didn't have the time to see more of the Bay of Islands.

I love Mado attitude she doesn’t hold back on her emotions she’s a force of nature and her distain for certain things makes her more adorable the two of them have a very refreshing personalities and vibrant energy of remarkable optimism and enthusiasm for life of a visiting tourist

I laughed to myself about this when i first started watching them! When Glenn used to keep cutting Mado off mid conversation to get that "cam time" haha both characters. 100% genuine people.

The kawakawa with more wholes is more therapeutically potent because as caterpillars eat the plant it releases chemicals to repel them, its those chemicals you want :)

So enjoyed seeing this video of places so familiar to me & show cased so well by you both. I love butchers like you do..nice clean fresh good meat! Loved the way Glen called on Jesus when he tripped at big rock in Kerikeri near the Park. Remember that name Glen! Hope someone has told you about the toilets at Kawakawa..how Whangarei turned down the offer from the man himself in 1993 so he went to Kawakawa where the people embraced him & accepted gladly the toilets-the locals helped him with the build. Plus he ended up living in the area & where he was welcomed so warmly. Years later after he had passed, Whangarei decided they wanted one of his buildings after all.& the story began. Probably because of the limelight Kawakawa was getting & they wanted it too..but not a true Hundertwasser to me without his actual input..but no one will know so that's just my personal gripe. Alot of Whangarei was against having the build go ahead..'let Kawakawa have their fame' alot said..but also the financial burden many could see that was to come at the rate payers cost..and just not everyone loved the idea of this structure. Ps-you could have gone up to the Cafe free of charge..I saw that video too. Hundertwassers home there in the north is to be soon opened to the public. That will be good for the area..& the newish Hundertwasser Memorial building & park (behind the toilests) is a credit to the councel there. Hehe..saw my cousin walking by (in Kawak) at 29 mins)😊

Hundervassser lived in Kawakawa, he offered plans to Whangarei Council unnthe 1980s, the council said no thanks so her built the toilets in Kawakawa, then years later Whangarei council decoded to build the one we have now, hoping loads of tourists will come, cost us ratepayers quite a bit, then COVID came, then the cyclones and the Brynderwyns closing, yay not, Te Tai Tokerau cut off from the rest of the country Northland Te Tai Tokerau, is split into, Northland, Mid North, and the Far North.

The fruit and vege guy you filmed is the best. The produce is always so fresh. He did a special order for us one day. The bakery there is not very good, the few times l have stopped in there, their food is always over cooked and the coffee yuck. The cars are an embarasment. We have a neighbour who has a collection of old cars. When he gets stoned he races them around the roads in the middle of the night. So dangerous. Hunderwasster lived just out of Kawakawa. His earth house is now open for tours. Everyone gets smashed car windows, its more to do with our gravel roads, not crime. Crime is everywhere, so it’s very judgemental to look at the cars and make assumptions.

So Glen gets a recommendation for coffee from a couple they've already met but, no, he has to walk to the shop Mado found because Mado found it. She doesn't want anything but if Glen's going to get coffee he's going to get it there because.... Mado. Thankfully he's a happy go lucky Irishman. The more I see, the more I like Glen. I'd have kicked her to the curb long ago. I hope they edited out the part where they warned possible users that they were coming into public toilets with a camera running :(

Ive never known it in my 68 years..and my Nana came from Wainui/Matauri Bay, I lived in Te Kao in my high school years..never heard of or saw anyone cook it..spent much time at marae. Experienced 'rotten corn' which was quite a delicacy when I was young..not for me but the adults more & some young whe grew up on it. Also went to Poutu area in Dargaville, Northland-still didn't hear of.
