My wife and I will be travelling for 6 weeks in Sept/Oct - 2.5 weeks in AU, 3.5 in NZ. These videos have helped us better prioritize during our limited time. Many of the places we planned to visit have been covered in this series. Most helpful are the food/restaurant reviews. Raw and minimally edited, the videos could get a bit tedious if you two were not so endearing and honest in your appraisals. You’ve really grown on us. Thank you for putting in the effort, and safe travels.

We moved to Thames at the start of the year, bloody funny place because it’s commutable to Auckland, Hamilton , Tauranga close to the Coromandel and the house prices are stupidly affordable in comparison to those three cities.

I had my last colonoscopy in Thames! :) I spent a night in an airbnb, and the host, who I'd never met before, very kindly came up to the hospital ward to pick me up afterwards as I wasn't allowed to drive myself.

I parked my motor home on the other side of the inlet at Ray's Rest. It is a bird sanctuary. I was so excited to get there I to the shore wearing my jandals (aka flip flops, thongs). I was instantly ankle deep in that sticky muddy silt that Glen discovered. Took me quite awhile to get my feet out without losing my jandals. i got back to my motorhome covered in that gunk. Not fun! But it's a very beautiful and serene place to park up with the birds for three days.

If you go to Northland, best kept secret is Mimiwhangata Coastal Reserve. Fantastic spot on a fine day.
@MarkMcLT7 ай бұрын
Agree, Mimiwhangata is very cool. There's also a beautiful walk at Ngahau Bay just to the north. But I have a feeling they may have left NZ without exploring Northland, which would be a shame. I think it has the best beaches in the country. Mahinepua is another gem. But it's all best experienced in the summer.

Coromandel /Thames district council do not wellcome responsible Freedom Campers.They come down very hard with fines on anything they can find that does not suit them regarding Freedom Campers.I was told the local camp sites loose money because most campers stay in their vans at parking spots.So the District council works along side the camp sites by trying to stop Freedom Camping who dont use the camp sites.

@@gissyb1 No, that's not true. Some have much more subtle accents - you find some older New Zealanders were taught to speak "Received Pronunciation" - it is becoming rare to hear that now but I know Kiwis who speak in Received Pronunciation.
