Great job showing us around the CBD , thanks ,! I used to live about 10 minutes walk from the MCG many years ago which is a stones throw from the city, I didn’t go to the city much I’m not really a crowd person😊. So much to see in Melbourne , too much really , but if you get some spare time on a good weather day , one of my favourite suburbs is Williamstown which is adjacent to where the Yarra river opens up into the port Philip bay , the main drag of Williamstown and the all the different shops , a lot being food that follow the road alongside the water , it is a really cool suburb imo , you look across the water at the CBD , and it’s very colorful at night too. Unfortunately a lot of visitors to Melbourne come and go without even seeing Williamstown . If you start at the strand and follow it along it takes you through a lot of the food shops and eventually the road arcs around to a part of the bay where you can often see a lot of big ships coming into dock , if you follow the road around further it takes you along the bays edge eventually getting to beach . But in town near the food area , there is also a pier , with an old navy ship of some description. For me I used to love getting a feed of fish and chips at one of the many fish shops and eating near the water and maybe doing a bit of photography . All the best to you on your visit.

Starbucks pretty much only exists in Australia for the tourists and the international students who don't know any better. Thats why we have barely any of them in comparison to other countries, and they only appear in places with huge international visitor presence in major cities. You simply do not find them outside of airports or city centers. Word of advice though: if you're an aficionado of good quality matcha, you're probably not going to get it ordering it from a regular cafe, especially not iced. They all use cheap matcha powder, and if its busy and you order it iced odds are it will not be blended properly with the cold milk coz they just want to get it out the door. You'd need to go to a Japanese cafe or teahouse that specialises in it and will take the time with quality product. Tokyo Lamington in Carlton does a lovely matcha, as well as amazing flavour varieties on the Aussie classic lamington cake

As a local: you passed my office building, and later my old university campus (the "Ghostbusters" building, RMIT) 😄 If you're still filming here, I recommend checking out the Botanical Gardens, St Kilda for its beach views and cafes, Swan St in Richmond for its pub and live music scene, the clubbing and boutique shopping just round the corner on Chapel Street in South Yarra and Prahran, the alternative music and bohemian fashion scene in Carlton/Brunswick/Collingwood/Northcote... those are the most interesting areas for vlogging. Also the leafy suburbs of Toorak just southeast of the CBD is very photogenic to drive through, but will also make you jealous of everybody who can afford to live there. If you're looking for beautiful day trips, I have three recommendations much easier than the obvious ones travel bloggers tend to do (which is the Great Ocean Road). 1. Drive just southwest of the city to Queenscliff for morning tea and coffee, then get on the Searoad car ferry that crosses Port Phillip Bay to Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula. Its only a ~20min crossing but it is very beautiful and memorable. Then you can have fish and chips for lunch at one of the many restaurants in Sorrento, or one of the other beautiful beachside towns like Rosebud or Dromana. At this time of the year the beaches there are as picturesque as many in QLD or NSW's Central Coast. You can then enjoy a cruisy beachside drive back up the peninsula, first along the Nepean Highway and then taking the scenic Beach Road from Mordialloc up to the city. 2. A drive to the Dandenong Ranges (about an hour east of the CBD) is a must -- SkyHigh on Mount Dandenong gives the best possible view of the Melbourne skyline, and the teahouses and the pubs and eateries in the hills are all amazing (there's also a Bavarian restaurant called the Cuckoo nestled in the perfect forest location). Check out the tiny towns like Olinda, Kallista, Sassafras for a taste of rural Victoria within easy driving distance, and all the incredible gardens and forests you can walk through. Grants Picnic Ground is in an area full of gorgeous native birds such as lyrebirds, rainbow lorikeets and crimson rosellas -- the public used to be allowed to feed the birds but it apparently is no longer legal, which is sad. But I imagine it's still just as scenic. Belgrave is also a great suburb in the area to have lunch or brunch and has quality cafes and coffee shops. If you're no longer in Melbourne, oh well, hopefully it will give some other commenters ideas for day trips if they ever visit the city.
@GlenAndMadoАй бұрын
Wow, thank you so much for the incredible tips and local insights! I really appreciate you taking the time to share all these amazing spots and recommendations. I had no idea about some of these places, especially the Queenscliff to Sorrento ferry and the Dandenong Ranges-those sound like perfect hidden gems for a day trip! I’ll definitely keep those in mind for future visits, whether for filming or just to explore. And I agree, the Botanical Gardens and St Kilda's beach are beautiful, but I can’t wait to check out the other areas you mentioned like Swan St, Chapel Street, and the alternative scenes in Carlton and Brunswick. It’s great to hear firsthand from someone who knows the city so well. Thanks again for sharing, it’s really helpful!

Had 4 days in Melbourne (St Kilda) early in the year and just had 3 days in Brisbane 1st time ever. Brisbane blew me away and had a better vibe about it. Loved South Bank where we stayed.

The "ghostbusters" building is part of RMIT University. That whole block, on both sides of swanston st is RMIT university, except for old melbourn gaol which is behind it. Might be worth a visit if youre looking for things to do. The big construction work accross the city is they are building another tunnel through the city and adding 3 or 4 more stations I believe, going along swanston. Theyre due to open fairly soon, they have been working on it since before covid. I would also recommend taking a walk along southbank, and going to the Royal Botanic Gardens, which continues on from that, where you can also find the Shrine of Rememberance, a huge building/monument just south of the city built to remember the soldiers of the WWs. Visiting the MCG if you are even mildly interested in sport is a must, and if you like shopping, theres a maaaaaasive shopping center in Chadstone, which is basically an entire suburb. Chapel St has a loooot of cultural stuff, nightlife, shops ect. Its a pretty common walk for people coming to melbourne.

Welcome to Melbourne 🙏 You should take a trip on the Puffing Billy Steam train through the Dandenong Ranges. You have to catch a metro train to Belgrave & then walk to the Puffing Billy Station. It is a narrow gauge tourist steam train.

Beef cheek is naturally a tough part of a cow so for it to be tender, it has to be cooked for a least 3 days so that’s what we mean when we say red wine, because it’s slow cooked with red wine

When you stay in the city environs, you see a lot but you miss out on so much more out in the suburbs. Next time you’re in Sydney, explore the St George an$ Sutherland Shire Districts. So many great restaurants and shopping malls! One such place is the Imperial Peking Chinese Restaurant, bookings are essential. They also have Yum Cha times! It’s situated on the intersection of the Princes Highway and King Georges Road, Blakehurst, close to the boundary between St George and Sutherland Shire. The building looks very traditional Chinese.

Pies and iced coffee are tradies lunch. I saw you were in Adelaide, I hope you got to try the famous 'farmers union' iced coffee, the only place in the world where coca cola is outsold by another drink.

Welcome to our hometown Glen and Mado! Working hard? :) We have loved watching your travels around the world, you are both always so kind, respectful, humble and genuine, such a refreshing change from so many travel vloggers! I hope you enjoy our backyard - so much great food on offer, but a bit pricier than a lot of places overseas :)

Possums are not native in New Zealand so are looked upon as pests. Here in Australia they are part of our native wildlife so we protect them. I think it’s great to have nature in the middle of one of our biggest cities! 💕

Starbucks failed in Australia. Nearly all of the Starbucks shut down. But over the last 2 years they have been learning from Australian coffee culture. They have stepped up their coffee a little. Still not as good as other coffee places in Australia.

Glen, beef cheek is literally the facial cheek of the cow. It’s very tender so when slow-cooked, it’s incredible! Gourmet is a french word so the t isn’t pronounced, it’s “gourmay”.
