At my old job, I used to have several older customers make very inappropriate comments and remarks to me, even after I told them plenty of times that I was uncomfortable. Management did nothing because they were loyal paying customers, I was even told numerous times that the only reason I was hired was because they wanted “attractive and pretty females” at the front desk. I wasn’t even a minor then, but it’s the fact that for some reason people have an issue discussing topics like SA. The whole respect your elders thing was something I was raised with, but at this point of time I no longer respect it. It’s sad that people struggle to openly discuss because it makes them uncomfortable meanwhile they can go on rants about less important topics.

I just want to mention that just because you’re 18 doesn’t mean that you’re suddenly capable of making healthy decisions for yourself. There are absolutely people who are traumatized and emotionally stunted and incapable of making a decision against something that’s bad for them because it feels good. It is only right that an older person take the time to consider the vulnerability of the person they’re talking to and chose their response to the vulnerable people accordingly. Anyone around or under 20 doesn’t make them “fair game.” Just because they’re legal doesn’t mean it’s morally right to be sleeping with them. Some 18 year olds will be able to make that choice in a sound mind. A lot won’t. If you’re engaging with someone 10, 20, 30 years older/younger than you take a minute and reflect on why you’re doing that.
