Not for nothing but in the film "A Bronx Story" Robert DeNiro asks his son why he lied to him. The 8 year old son replys, "I thought I'd take a shot." The reply of admitting to the lie and the reasoning behind it was fine with the father. Even the child knew when to open his mouth.

That last moment is perfect - the moment Shelley senses weakness and decides to go in on Williamson. Worst mistake of his life.
@paulaharrisbaca48513 жыл бұрын
Yes, that scene makes me think, for some reason, of the scene in "Taxi Driver" when Travis Bickle takes Betsy to a porn movie. People who shoot themselves in the foot. Maybe it has to do with them feeling they don't deserve good luck or feeling like they are guilty and they are punishing themselves with guaranteed failure. Shelley probably could've coasted through.

@@mja91352 Well, what is your definition of a 'character actor'? As I've commented before, every actor is (or should be) a character actor. Someone who's portrayed Macbeth, Hamlet and Shylock, especially as well as Sir Jonathan has, is very much a character actor. That said, it is quite an arbitrary term and means different things to different people.

By reducing himself to a shallow *Schtick' without any human insight to real pathos like a bad advertisement not actual quality acting? That film is so bad it is pure cringe. It took the last Biden Trump debate to reach that level of nuclear vileness. It was pure self parody with zero humor times 1000. Simply dreadful. However on the other hand 'Carlito's Way' IS one of his very best films ever so in fairness; your main statement is still about 50% right.
