Great tour of what looks like a fabulous distillery! And one who knows exactly how and what they want to achieve. So clear in their processes to know they could make more but it would be to the detriment of there spirit. Another great episode!! Hope there’s lots more like this to come.

What a lovely tour, and credit to the staff for their input. Whilst I still have some Glengoyne in my collection (heels), I now see it as one of my gateway whiskies in the sherry matured domain. Also something I am unlikely to buy anymore. It suffers from being at 43%, and whilst we applaud the natural color there is no mention of chill filtration. There are so many other sherried whiskies to choose from now that are affordable and comparative, that Glengoyne no longer stands out.....I am thinking of Glendronach, Glenallachie, Edradour and Aberlour. Ultimately I think the marketers at Glengoyne should consider 46% and the return to a 750ml bottle size. When out and about, say at a bar or restaurant, I would have no hesitation in ordering a Glengoyne and would be confident in it. But with so many high quality sherry matured whiskies available, I don't see me buying any for my home collection, but lovely to see the distillery......thanks for a great video, cheers Charlie

So which element has the greatest bearing on the colour of the liquid, the cask, or the previous fillings? I ask because Charlie Maclean's view is that the colour is only coming from the wood. But if that were the case, why doesn't the AO ex-Bourban casks impart a reddish Hue to the whiskies in the display?
@TheWhiskyBaronАй бұрын
colour does only come from wood. American Oak generally matures Bourbon first and then Scotch, so the colour is a slightly lighter golden than that of a Bourbon. European Oak generally matures sherry/wine, so the colours provided are slightly lighter ruby hues. hope that makes sense - the great thing about Glengoyne is it's all natural colour!
@adhominemsis-t.australisensisАй бұрын
@TheWhiskyBaron maybe it's only wine that imparts the reddish colours. Only way to confirm is filling in virgin EO. At least from a colour perspective, it seems like the display suggests that extraction happens with time, I.e. longer in cask, darker the colour. But wouldn't that suggest it's just the wood that's imparting colour and not the colour of the previous liquid?
@TheWhiskyBaronАй бұрын
@@adhominemsis-t.australisensis no, you'll get the red from sherry also - in fact I don't think Glengoyne use any wine casks. you will get colour from fresh oak and. you'll get more again from charred casks, but the red hues are either directly related to previous fillings or they're the result of colour being added
