Thank you sir. I bought it after watching it in the store- they had 1 bottle and this was the oldest. Verrry smooth and helped celebrate my mate's new son. Appreciate the comparison to the 21 and 25 year. Ill save my money and stick with the 18 year.

I bought the glenlivet 21 about 4 years ago (the one shone here) and it was less than € 90. Then it was announced that glenlivet were going to stop producing it and wow and behold the price exploded.

Hello. I am currenty enjoying Glenlivet 21 and new Glenlivet 18 40%. Can you compare new 18 to 21? Is it still close? Or better buy spare bottle 21 for 130$? I am drinking whisky for 2 years but 18 and 21 whisky is something new for me. My first opinion I love them both. For now 18 is hard to get so price jump from 60$ to 75$. For me 21 has more fruit and a little kick thanks to 3% abv and some sherry. Help me out a little with a decision.

For some reason, I prefer the 12 year old. It's more iconic - the number one Glenlivet. The nose is flowery and malty beyond any comprehension. The flavors - including tones of turpentine, or is it perhaps bread(?) - are so refined that space and time is intermingled. Especially on hangover occasions , the malty elegance tends to sooth the mind. But it's impossible not to drink the whole bottle - therefore I never buy any. So I have found that the 18 year old is a good compromise. It's just so expensive that it prevents me from overconsume.

So, since the 18 and 21 are so similar, might as well buy the 18 and save some money.

David, hoping you could help me with something. My inlaws live in Boston and I'd like to blow their minds by buying them a REALLY nice bottle of Scotch. I don't want it to be some weird/odd bottle or something that only a few particular folks would enjoy; I want something that will surely be a hit and have near universal admiration. I'm good to go up to $300 so what would you recommend? I did some research to find the 21 but you make a great point that the 18 is a LOT less....your advice most appreciated, thanks

@@stevereisman6872 I'm no expert, but I will give you my opinion for what it's worth. The bottle that leapt to my mind was Glenmorangie Signet (46% ABV). It's beautifully boxed and the bottle itself is a showpiece. The best part though, is the whisky. There's no age statement, but you can tell there's some very old whisky in it. It's silky smooth, delicious, and very complex. It's at the upper end of your price range, but totally worth it. If you have a hard time finding it, my second choice would be Bunnahabhain 18. The packaging isn't so grand as the Signet, but it has a dark chocolate flavor that I really enjoy. It's an Islay whisky, but unpeated (46.3% ABV).

Both bottles are exceptional. In the end it comes down to your taste, as the Glenlivet 21 years was also matured in sherrycasks.

Was actually highly disappointed from this one. It's around $320 a bottle in the state I'm in. Thought it was considerably worse than the 18

I really like the Glenlivet 18 but its still a chill filtered, coloured mess. Try some cask strength whiskys from independent bottlers for a true flavour experience. Balblair is a good one.
