Glenmorangie 14 Year Quinta Ruban Review - Port Cask Finished Core Range Highland Scotch Whisky

Glenmorangie famously has the tallest stills in Scotland, which results in some light spirit they've been "finishing" rather than maturing in different wine casks for years. This whisky is finished in port wine casks and has the oldest age statement in Glenmorangie's core range. In this video, I'll taste the whisky and give my review.

The Quinta Ruban is a favourite in the core Glenmorangie range. I like the 18 and the Signet more (and some of their special releases are good), but if you add value to the equation, the QR is great.

I had the Quinta Ruban presiding over the pantheon in my cabinet for several years. It shared that honor with Auchentoshan Three Wood right up until the recent upheaval that brought the peated expressions to power. I had started with the Lasanta and then branched into the QR. I only recently tried the d'Or and was pleasantly surprised. I really have not spent much time with the Glenmo original, as I was diverted to Old Pulteney and then to Glencadam and Deanston.

I'm also a fan of the Nectar D'Or, even without the age statement. Not quite as good of a value as the QR, but it's very nice.

I have the 14 yo , the 12yo and the NAS of this. I really enjoy port finished casks. I opened another 14 and 12 or these and compared. Definitely benefits from another 2 years in the cask but will be keeping the NAS and the 12 for a few years and drink the 14yo until then.

Appreciate the basic 10 for its approachability, and the Signet for the unique espresso notes. Not much drawing me to the rest of their line.

I feel it’s a rly unique sherried one. So balanced and buttery. One of my first single malt repurchases. Just getting into good scotches lately and this was like 2nd or 3rd bottle cus I started experimenting with sherried types. I just veered towards experimenting with smoky ardbeg / Islay peated scotches and before I even tried more than two of the smoky ones I found myself wanting more of the QR 14. It’s so easy to sip and I love the chocolatiness

I've only had two Glenmorangie's, the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 YO and the Glenmorangie Nector D'or. I perfer the Glenmorangie Nector D'or. Both are good, but the D'or is just better for my pallet.
