Great tasting notes. This keeps getting recommended to me. I always end up purchasing a peated scotch. I don’t know why but it always happens lol. And that’s the reason why I haven’t tried other styles as much. I’ll have to break that habit by purchasing something like this. Cheers Jon 🥃

excellent review. I had this dram some years back and it was the exact same experience! The nose really made me think I was in for a treat until the liquid hit my palate. Amazing how we both got that.

Thanks, and it is cool we had a similar experience here. I do not mind the Lasanta, good Scotch. However, I am not drawn to it often.

I like this one too. It was the first bottle I spent over the $20-30 on and it gave me a real passion for sherry finishes. I think it's my fave Glenmo. I should go back to now that I've had lot broader range of experience.

John, I wanted to let you know that I went to total wine here in the states the other day. I didn't find what I was looking for but I did find the Craigalachie 13. I tend to drink more sherry-matured/finished scotch in Summer... I would have joined you in a Lasanta, but I didn't have any and it is my first whisky of the morning after work. I reached for a Glenfarclas 8 just because I like to start with an entry-level ABV. and I love that Glenfarclas flavor profile... I may follow that with a Macallan 12, a Glenfarclas 15, or even a Macaloney's Caledonian Searidh Braiche... The stuff is amazing!

I've enjoyed every Paul John I've tried. Loved the Christmas releases especially. This one, peated, was good, but not my favourite Paul John. A solid producer of single malt IMO !

Hi Jon! Hope you are doing well. Yesterday I had Lasanta and my impressions more or less match to yours. Really decent easy drinking scotch but not mindblowing. Is it worth to try 10yo release or it makes no sense after the 12yo?
@WhiskyNeighbour8 ай бұрын
Unless you are on a journey to ensure you have tasted the range, I do not see a lot of value going through a bottle of the 10. Not bad, just, even less interesting than Lasanta. Glad you had this, and thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thanks for this review Jon, I was eyeing the la quinta ruban over this and since you say it’s not really a Sherry bomb I may avoid this... although the two could be an interesting “war”. Millstone sounds great though, cheers!

La Quinta Ruban is better than this one IMO and the Millstone is fantastic. This is still good for me though. Thanks for dropping in, cheers!

Did they change this bottling? For some reason I thought this used to be nonchillfiltered and bottled at %46.
@WhiskyNeighbour3 жыл бұрын
They used to put this out at 46% and only Oloroso. Now it's 43% and a mix of Oloroso and PX. I'm not sure about chill filtration though.

I think you'll find the Glenmorangie very sweet against the GlenDronach. I went through a bottle of this recently, but I felt no compulsion to go out and replace it. I'm sticking with the Quinta Ruban.

Certainly sweeter and for me, not as rich. Still, this is an easy and enjoyable pour. Cheers!

Hello my friend. Great review. What is your go to sherry bomb Scotch?
@davidbroughall37823 жыл бұрын
To put in my two cents worth, GlenDronach 12 is a sherry bomb. Matured 12 years in PX and Oloroso sherry casks.
@WhiskyNeighbour3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I would tend to agree with David here. In my area the Glendronach 12 is about the same price as the Lasanta. For that money, I would choose the GD. Much richer for me.
@davidbroughall37823 жыл бұрын
@@WhiskyNeighbour The fact that the GD is $15 cheaper here in Ontario makes the choice that much easier for me.

They say in their site this is matured in bourbon and sherry casks for 12 years. Bouron for 12 years i believe; but, sherry for 12 years too? I believe there must be a mistake on the description! And nothing about what kind of sherry.
@WhiskyNeighbour3 жыл бұрын
Old descriptions talked about 10 in ex-bourbon, then their different casks. That used to be their pattern. However, I really don’t know what they do now, and like you said, their site is very vague. Do you enjoy this one?

Not at all worth it. So what is it? Finished for two years in sherry or sherried casks. What does that mean? Well price wise it is close to Balvennie Doublewood and it's no where near as good. Is it really anything more more than a Tomatin twelve style and costs almost 50% more and is rougher in your opinion. I had this in two mini sets and I would never buy a full bottle based on my 200mL of experience. In fact, I don't like the 10nor the Nectar door. The Quinta Ruban is good.
@WhiskyNeighbour3 жыл бұрын
Strong opinions! I enjoy this. Not as rich as GD 12, but an easy sipper for me. The price dropped enough that I could justify picking it up. I would not pay top dollar, but I do enjoy it more than The Tomatin 12 you mention. I would agree though Balvennie is better. Take care!
