@@MB-H We cannot make false and illogical correlations. Because Greenwald, who goes on Fox to reach an audience that needs to hear him has integrity, does not mean that Fox has integrity just because he goes on the network. Nor does it mean that Tucker Carlson has integrity. Integrity does not bleed to others due to proximity. It is an internal within the individual. Carlson is an opportunist, and if Greenwald can use his platform to enlighten others, so be it.

Due to the dismissive comments about Greenwald, I have revisited some of hos videos and postings. I have not changed my mind. I think he has integrity. The problem of those railing against him may be that they are protective of Democrats when they need to take a more critical approach to who they are, at least as critical approach as they have on Greenwald. He seems spot on to me.

Glenn does not criticize advocacy in journalism. He has argued precisely that it is impossible to be a journalist and not be an advocate for your position. He argues that it is the main stream media that pretends that they are impartial, while being advocates for their position.

@@Masaru_kun Yes, that's a little different . . . he is talking about the two wings of the Democratic Party, DNC and the new progressives, and how they are approaching one another in message as the election comes closer. THEN he gives concrete examples, and he gives reasons why their messages are converging. Sadly, he is right. He didn't say he can't tell the difference between them. He said he is noticing how the messages they put out resemble each other more and more. Show me where Bernie, AOC, etc., cast doubt on the official DNC Russia narrative. Show me where they have taken a strong stand on free speech. Their failure to do that makes me CRINGE, because I know Trump and the right are the true enemies of freedom of speech and expression, unless that expression involves a big display of Second Amendment rights. I truly feel useful idiots is a term to describe those who judge in parameters of ways that they themselves would not want to be judged on. It's frequent to those who falsly deem to have an upper hand. so its interesting here that someone sort of coined the phraze; just hopefully not the (embarrasing) covert social media cause mobbing types so prevelent today but perhaps in this form its great banter of public affairs and free intelectual discussion, at times even agenda free. That's the type of discussion i like. Interesting dialogue!

Thought Glenn should have given a shout out to Consortium News, Robert Parry's outfit (before he died), when he mentioned the list of U.S. journalists who are covering the Assange trial. They are there, in court, and are filing every day, valiantly. Daniel Ellsberg, Noam Chomsky, Alice Walker, and the several journalists who are staples of the website, e.g. Joe Lauria, are doing videos and interviews on the website, again, virtually every day. They are cross-posting Craig Murray's (the former British ambassador to Uzbekistan) filings as well. They deserve due credit for this. I actually find it hard to believe that Glenn is not aware of Consortium News, and could not have known that they are covering the trial, but I suppose it's possible. I am also at a loss why Glenn did not explain why the Intercept is not covering the trial. This demands an accounting, like there's a really big WTF here.

Hi Matt and Katie. I love the show - in my top 3 must listen podcasts every week. Your show is strongest when you interview people like Nina Turner, or Cornel West, or Dennis Kuchinich - interesting personalities who have something to offer, to advance. Unfortunately, the show is not as strong when you become the Redemption or Explaining or Rant Platform which has been the case in many of past 4 weeks of shows. Alex Morse, Shahid Bhuttar, Glen Greenwald - all on the show to explain something instead of going through issues. Glen Greenwald spent half of your show becoming overly animated about the injustices done to him by other journalists? Really - is that the best Progressive content? Again - love the show and I look forward to it every Friday finish it by Saturday. But show is so much stronger when you have people on who have something to advance vs. explain/justify their behaviors or use it to tee off on enemies.
@JackFlash771
@JackFlash771 3 жыл бұрын
The fight for vibrant journalism that allows dissent from mainstream and political narratives is also a cause "to advance." Glenn spoke a lot from his personal experience, but it was far more than an airing of grievances; he repeatedly talked about how his treatment was part of a broader pattern.

I think that GG is a little bit too much naive on his part in defending the Intercept. Of course Reality Winner is a hero here , (regardless of anything thinking of her as naive or stupid). The Intercept having a bunch of seasoned and experienced journalists on its staff should have known that providing a copy of the NSA docs for authentication is ridiculous and dangerous for the source, whoever it will be. The best way to do this is to provide a transcript but not a a copy of docs showing not only a physical appearance of the docs but also the printer dots pattern which can lead to ID of the unit. This is just common knowledge in the journalism world as well as law enforcement so I think GG is taking one for the team on this one. Long story short , the Intercept did what was first and foremost in its own interest as they didn't want to have a SWAT team raiding their offices after the NSA contact.

I got some pushback for saying the same thing; that I wanted to know what the evidence was before I could form an opinion. It might have gone further than ads on social media which strikes me as more a private money making operation. Countries getting involved in each other's elections is common place and it's only a story if the Trump campaign was involved beyond trying to put together a deal for a Trump hotel in Moscow or if he was trading that hotel deal for political power and favors if they helped him get elected which was never definitively proven.

I can agree and acknowledge the point of pretty much everything Glenn said. Obviously, there are a couple of exceptions: I don't think Joe Rogan would be a good moderator of a debate. He said himself that he knows very little about politics. I would like to see a moderator who could hold the candidates feet to the fire, and that requires a lot of knowledge. I know, I also would like rainbow unicorns to exist. Glenn would be a good moderator. I also disagree with Glenn about trump voters. Supporting trump this cycle shows that they are either racists - trump runs of racism, so that's a no-brainer, completely uninformed (or willingly ignorant) because he has done nothing for people as he conned some to believe he would. At minimum, trump supporters are just assholes. I have seen some saying that they will vote for trump because they wanted Bernie, or because they hate Joe, because their lives are going to be the same crap with either one. This is egotistical. If your life will be the same, how about thinking about the lives of others? Just look at trivial things like education and what the trump goons are doing with that department, the segregation is back, disabled people like e are being denied access. Then move to the actual governance of the country, away from the more glaring and terrible headlines about immigrants, Covid deaths (those are obvious). The DoJ is an arm of the trump campaign, officially. Under trump, more of us have been in the defensive, just trying to stay alive. Yes, it is a check on our privilege, since many experienced that under other presidents. But we need a pause to take a breath and fight FOR something instead of DEFENDING our right to exist.
