This was extremely thought provoking and helpful. I am 72 and just put up my first HF tower. My VHF/UHF/SHF is anchored to the house so I don't worry much about that. Can you tell me the total weight of your array (which is impressive.) I was wondering what version of the hazer you have. My HF beam weighs 80lbs and the 6m beam weighs 12 pounds. I have the GM version 4 (the one with the wheels.) Thanks for the super video.

I have a question about guying. I believe you mentioned having a mid-level guy set as well as on the Hazer? I have a 50' 25G tower with a flat top and a Glenn Martin Hazer4 and was planning on guying at the top only, removing 2 guys to lower and then replace them after the Mosley TA33A gets past the top. I cannot figure out how to Mid guy without getting tangled in the Hazer when raising and lowering. Any advice or photo would be appreciated. 73's K5OOL

Correct. Mount the winch to a plate and use u-bolts to attach it to your tower legs. The hazer shouls have 3 guy points at the bottom to connect your guy wires to. You can get the tabs direct from Glenn Martin in Boonville MO. JD- N0IRS

10 years and re-cabled a 2nd time. Still working fine. That shed is gone and a new 1200 square foot woodshop right next to it.

Nice. You have a few bucks invested in all that!!!

Cable from the winch will go up through the middle of the tower up to the top and through the pulley. Then it will come to the outside of the tower and through the two holes in the upper and lower hazer plates. You will see the holes. Then you need to clamp off after making a loop in the cable so it cannot pull back through the holes of the hazer. Hope that helps

Miles Wow what an idea. Sure hope you are still open for suggestion/assistance. I have a 50ft tower, dont know make or model however I am now at the point that raising that thing is getting harder. have a 3 element beam with vhf antenna on top. I have a Champion 10,000lb winch and sure could use your help in using the winch along with the crank-up. What is the term hazer? Can we make direct contact for more detailed information that I am missing in your video. Thank KG0CA 73s

So that winch HAS to be on the inside of the tower the way this works. I'm thinking about just putting up the 50 foot tower with hazer next to my house with a bracket and guying with the hazer, but I have no extra tabs for the four corners. I need to rig up some sort of guy tabs on the thing. I'll use the 40 foot for my uhf/vhf array like you're doing. I haven't decided yet.

@UnckieBub The pad extends out 2 feet below what you see above the surface. I stepped it down. This tower has been up since 2006. I wshit by a microburst last Oct 2010. It was up and recorded an 87 MPH wind during the event. That storm caught me off guard. The winch has been the only new addition this spring.

got mine up do you put the guy lines where the hazer will go over them wen you bring it down hows that work
@JDDupuy10 жыл бұрын
jake thorpe Well mine are attached to the hazer. I only lower in no to light winds. My buddy Jim did it the way you describe and he figured out the routine okay the few times he did lower his antennas.

That model winch is not available. Can you recommend a replacement and one that handle handle at least 130 feet of cable for a 60 for tower. Thanks

so is the tower guyed?? I can't work out how you guy a tower using a hazer??
@rreynolds5111 жыл бұрын
I have the hazer 4 also.....I also have a 2000 lb winch I'm not using so I was thinking about hooking it up instead of the manual winch. To make the cable fit it sounds like I need splice into the hazer cable at the top tower right before it goes into the pulley when the hazer is down....ugh...is that how you did it? Figure out that point and mark it....splice then with the hazer up....

The mast pipe above the hazer would be the logical spot to ground as it is higher than the actual tower and hazer .I ran 1/4 stainless steel above the tower on my mast pipe with 2 stainless muffler type u bolts with a large loop for rotating. I attached my feed line to the same 1/4 inch cable with ties straps .Run that to the same ground system as the tower legs down below . I use 4 ea 8 ft ground rods and 2 inch copper strap to bond all together + 1/4 inch cable from mast pipe .

I'm about to convert my guyed 40ft Rohn 25 tower to a 50 foot + with Glen Martin hazer that I inherited recently from a good friend's estate. I have the crank, but I also have my ATV's winch. Maybe there's a way to rig that so I can use the ATV winch instead, I don't know. I'm still unsure how I hook up the hazer in the first place. The hazer and hardware is already up on a tapered piece of tower, but I am not sure how to get the cable and winch figured out yet. Any help appreciated. N5TEN

i know this has been a while since you posted this but I'm new to towers and found your video. I see the hardline going up the side but then when it gets near the top you convert it to smaller line I'm guessing so you can use a rotator? whats the smaller line? lmr400? and what connection or connector does the hardline use and convert to? pl259 or n or something else? thanks so much love the vid.

I got my hazer and antenna up in the air. I still have no guy attachments, so I guyed it at the top on the 50 foot straight section for now. How did you ground your hazer to the tower or ground rod?
@alphasxsignal9 жыл бұрын
You sure do have lots of big Hardline:)
@semperoccultus196911 жыл бұрын
How did you ground your hazer to your tower? I have a ground clamp screw for any hole on the hazer and a piece of wire to the 8ft grounding rod next to my tower. That's my plan. Wish I had done it earlier because we have a big lightning storm right now. Did you do anything unusual or the same?
