A beautiful Ham Tower!!! And a very well done video!! The last house I grew up in as a kid had a 100ft antenna tower and man I sure wish I had that tower today!! Just passed my Technician test and waiting to show up on the FCC website!! I have wanted to be a HAM since first introduced to HAM radio when I was in middle school but as time went on and with the advent of pagers to cell phones to texting etc. I did not pursue my license, but now after years of waiting I committed to studying and passed my Tech exam with flying colors and am very excited!! Also just purchased the New Yaseu FT-891 to listen to the HF bands while studying to take The General exam so I can talk with people around the globe! I am looking at making a home made antenna tower of about 10-20' in the near future! Thanks Again for the great video..... 73

*Update: Loved watching this video! I'm still in the process of planning, but your video actually helped me to nail down my selection. I live in a suburban neighborhood, so I'm trying to be as conservative as possible. So far, I'm looking at the US Tower TMM-541SS. It's a free-standing unit, and with the factory-installed riser motor and limit switch/control unit, it's considerably more than I planned on, but oh well. The hard part is finding a reputable installer and so far, it looks like I'll have to bring in a crew from out-of-town. The last thing I want is to have some local hack that thinks he can do it, even though he never has.

Very well explained to any viewer at any age. Step-by-step logical explanation and very well photographed. 'Wish it was as easy as this video makes it look......(when I mention "easy" I'm not talking about putting up the tower. I'm talking about paying for it) 'Hope you don't have to move from your current QTH anytime soon !!! Great tower and great antenna !! '73

Al, nice set up and installation. I installed a telescopic tower at my home a couple of years ago. A lot of work, but love the extended ability it added to my station using a tower and Yagi antennas.

The first rule of tower project design and erection is calling 811 (Dig Safe)! Nice video and narration.
@k0cn9 жыл бұрын
Jon Frost Good point. We did call 811 and had the utilities marked. It ended up saving my buried phone cable while digging the hole for the base.

Al Senechal I am amazed at some of the videos online that leave out this precise point. One guy almost severed his sprinkler system...Oops. I wish I had your tower at my place... no towers, no antennas, etc... gonna be interesting trying to get out on HF.

Perfect video --hit all the highlights, no boring delays, superb transitions, great explanations. Professionally done. Makes me want to order a Heights CU84 even though everyone I want to talk to has a cell phone and I somehow landed here looking for stupid cat tricks and gin poles. Makes me want to become a ham even though there were no cats or gin. Wait... wait.... wait. I became a ham --KM4KDE. The video of your erection inspired me. For better or worse, thanks! --88

That is an amazing story. I was just trying to get ideas for my long wire antenna, and I find myself watching this event. I plan to get my General class between December and January, when the semester is over.

I've only built a few towers in warm sunny weather haha ... We're hardly ever that lucky ... And to make it worse the several towers I've done in warm sunny weather was too warm and sunny as it was June in Alabama and almost 100° and the last one was a 250' self support and we stacked with a crane not a self erecting tower haha ...pretty cool video though 👍

Forgive me if I'm being rude, but could you give a breakdown of the tower , antenna and contractor cost cost of this project? Awesome demonstration by the way. I felt like I was watching a documentary.

This is a super project and just what I need for my town centre location in the Philippines would you like to put a total cost for the project, just to give me some indication of what to expect.

Nice! That said, you would NEVER find me in a orange jumpsuit standing directly under the fall path of that tower as it is raised or lowered. At least that is what it looks like from the angle the video was shot.
@k0cn9 жыл бұрын
k0rc Not to worry. My friend in the orange jumpsuit is the owner of a crane company and quite aware of fall lines. I'm sure your concern is a result of the camera angle.

Looks like the tower is leaning slightly to the left.. or is that an effect of a wide angle lens?
@k0cn5 жыл бұрын
Effect of camera lens. When set up checked plumb with leveling transit.
