That is one serious fire they've got going in that fireplace! 😮

It's a shame this wasn't built. His wife, Lottabelle McCord was my English teacher at North Arlington High School in 1970. She taught me skills that I still use.

There's something that's not "Wright" about this house. You'd need a 3-alarm fire to keep that living area warm without other heat.

There are too many conditions where Wright's own design principles are ignored, so I'm not sure how this got his approval. The perimeter seating in the living room all faces to the interior, that's the opposite of most of his designs that face outwards to exterior vistas. Yes, he designed some fireplace nooks with seating that faced inwards towards the fireplace, but that was always a tiny percentage of the total seating. The majority always faces outwards. The entry door and the doors to the rooms on the upper-level mezzanine are plain holes cut into flat planes. Wright mocked that kind of design. Additionally, there are multiple other conditions that do not show Wright's touch.

I think you’re incorrect on both counts. The Walker House in Carmel, with views of the literal Pacific Ocean has original seating facing inward on all sides. Even His own home in Wisconsin has a massive row of seating right below the windows facing inward. Also, the Friedman house in Pleasantville has the same second floor circular area before entering into punched doors although much more hidden from the living space below. I think it’s important to keep in mind that Wright was continuously evolving and experimenting. And some of those experiments are failures. He also wasn’t above dropping or ignoring some of his own tenets in order to satisfy the needs of the design.

I'm afraid I can't entirely agree with deezynar on the seating issue. Movable seats must of course be discounted, as they might face in any direction, but Wright's built-in seating is placed wherever there is a length of unoccupied wall---regardless of orientation. A perusal of Usonian floor plans will bear this out, but logic would suggest that the bench seating would either be far from the window wall, or backed up to a row of windows. In some cases, both conditions exist; see for instance the Lamberson residence. Fallingwater has three built-in couches; two back up to windows, while the third faces the fireplace and the view---from across the room, distant from either feature.
