Glenn Peoples, "Divine Holiness and Hell"

Glenn Peoples gives a short talk on the claim that God's holiness is a reason to embrace the doctrine of eternal torment. Spoiler alert: It's not. A biblical theology of divine holiness can inform our understanding of divine judgement on sin, but it will not offer any support to the traditional doctrine of hell. This talk was given at the annual conference of the Conditional Immortality Association of New Zealand on the 6th of May, 2023.

Well said. I agree that God's holiness and His response to evil as seen in the Bible supports the permanent and complete destruction of unholy people at the final judgment and does not support God keeping them alive forever in torment.

I've not connected "destroyed from the presence of the Lord" in Numbers as a possible connection to Paul's use of "eternal destruction from the presence of the Lord" in 2 Thessalonians 1:9 before. Excellent presentation Glenn, thanks!
