we're on the tail end of a storm, too, don't forget. Lots of places have been flooded this week. (We sure dodged that bullet with the Dave Myers rideout on Sunday, although I was fighting hard headwinds heading back over the Humber bridge and all the way back to Nottingham!)

Not exactly flooded is it? It's just a high spring tide linked to the full moon and it's distance from earth
@thewhitbyphotographer9 ай бұрын
Partially correct. But missing some info. The tide in the Whitby tide book was a high of 5.9M. A rough estimation would suggest there is a good 0.5m more water than that. Low pressure and a westerly wind play a huge part in the extra water.

The tides have nothing to do with climate change. With the sun and the moon pretty much in the same space in the sky (there was an eclipse, remember), their combined gravity will create higher tides. The high tides don’t help with river flooding from all the wet weather we’ve been having as the water has no where to go until the tide goes out again
@thewhitbyphotographer9 ай бұрын
You're correct to point out it was a spring tide. We get these every month. Yesterdays tide in The Whitby area was a predicted high of 5.9 which is nothing out of the ordinary, in fact we had significantly higher tides in Feb and March that didnt cause any flooding at all. So why was yesterday different ?? What came was closer to 6.5 m - 7.0m, so How are you accounting for the half meter or more of extra water if your saying its just a normal spring tide ?? The short answer is it was a small but not insignificant Tidal Surge. If you look into Tidal surges they are very much caused by weather systems, and specifically low pressure areas over the water.
@TheXeneco9 ай бұрын
@@thewhitbyphotographer wasn’t aware of the tidal surge, not surprising with the current influx of Atlantic storms this month. Some will coincide with spring tides, some not. At least not as devastating as the surge of 1953 in Essex.
@pitoulatika9 ай бұрын
Climate change is a normal cycle, there is no climate crisis. Most of the rain we’ve had all winter and spring is due to the relentless weather geoengineering that’s been going on for decades
