Thanks Glenn 👍. A superb monument to a tragic event. Of course, we have a long lifeboat tradition here at Walton on the Naze. I only hope the RNLI doesn't ultimately regret its recent decision to downgrade our Tamar ALB to an ILB. We saw our coastguard station close down a few years ago. It was once Thames Headquarters.

The Eigth Wreck - Sue Haithwaite 2006 Today a storm has hit our town Wind whipped waves come crashing down The storms rage on and our sea strand Are filled with wrecks beached on the sand 7 times the signal came 7 ships lost in the rain 7 ships crews must be saved Our lifeboat men row thru the waves CHORUS - - - - - - Heres thanks to the lifeboat men who labour To save a neighbour or a stranger Doesnt matter who, where, why or when They brave the cruel seas once again - - - - - - 13 all manned our lifeboat Struggled keeping her afloat They rowed her out beyond the pier returned one wrecks crew safely here 5 times they rowed with all their might to rescue sailors from their plight 5 times returned the men to shore Then set out off to sea once more CHORUS Close to the pier the 6th wreck lay When lifeboat men sailed out that day Exhausted men all of one mind The shipwrecked crews they had to find They hadnt rowed out very far Not even, some say, 50 yards It was a wild and furious storm Took lifeboat men where all could see CHORUS Families stood round helplessly As lifeboat men sank in the sea Swallowed by the mighty waves Of 13 men just one man saved The sea claimed victory once again Fatherless kids and widows ten Never 4get those men so brave Who gave their lives others to save Now I ask you all to pray Remember those who died that day Lets give praise to the lifeboat men Who risk their lives time and again

I wish I could have been there. It looks amazing. Henry Freeman only survived because he was the only member of the crew to wear the newly introduced Cork life jacket. 🇬🇧⚓️⚓️

Very nice Glenn!! Those Men and Women do such a service to Everyone! They are the 4th emergency service and way too underrated imo, as someone who lived in Padstow for about 10 years, those flares could go up regularly, and if you heard two...it was a boat that had gone down (usually a fishing vessel) and though you were not a wife or a child or family to a Fisherman you would still worry a lot as you might know them. God Bless those wonderful Volunteers at the RNLI! ❤‍🩹❤‍🩹❤‍🩹
