Back in the day, I was dumb enough to lend WaveRace64 to a neighbor kid in exchange for a Madden game. I've finally done it. I've watched all 293 of your N64 game reviews on your playlist, in order. I started this journey 6 months ago, watching 1 or 2 videos a day on my lunch break at work as I smoke Newports. You've become a part of my routine and I thank you for all the hard work you put into these. Now I must move on and find other videos to watch each day, but I've grown accustomed to hearing your calming British voice each day on my break as I sit outside and relax. Thank you, Glenn. 😊

It ultra sucks that EA decided to be ultra greedy as fuck and buy the NFL Exclusive Rights so that no other developer or publisher can try to compete against EA's Madden games or even make NFL games in general, which includes no more ESPN NFL 2K games or even NFL Blitz after late 2004, which sucks ultra balls (I bet you Glenn would have wanted to see a modern NFL Blitz game on the PS4 or Xbox One or the Nintendo Switch). Nowadays, the Madden franchise is SO greedy and so terrible that you might as well just go back and play ESPN NFL 2K5, NFL Blitz, or even some old Madden games to get your 🏈 fix; and also thanks to the ESPN NFL 2K5 community you can literally update the NFL team rosters to the current ones on your computer, which I highly recommend to do so instead of spending money on the next cashgrab Madden game.

Great review, Glenn! I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time. My favorite has got to be the original Madden 64. Since there was no franchise mode, my brothers and I would play season after season creating ourselves and then keeping track of all of our stats for multiple seasons. Like, I’m talking about writing this stuff down on paper! The gameplay is so damn solid in it. We did get 99 at some point, though. While I liked the visual upgrades and the ability to juke as a runner, I felt the passing game wasn’t as good there. Recently I picked up the remaining titles and have been screwing around with them. Still, my memories with Madden 64 keep me going back to that one. Again, great review, Glenn. Keep up the great work!

Also, I loved the commentary, or rather lack thereof. Madden would let out some really good one liners in 64. “Follow your lead blocker stupid!” And “Those coordinators are getting so bored they’re eating hotdogs up in the press box!” Lolz

I find it interesting that these football games can be talked about from various perspectives. We can talk about what it was like at the time, which you do a fine job of. We can talk about how well they hold up today, which is what the Madden community does with the more recent titles being garbage and looking to play retro Madden titles on the SNES, PS2 and Xbox 360. We can also talk about American football gaming as a whole. While it is fair to say that, for a full price game, Madden 2001 was not worth buying to replace Madden 2000, there is no denying that 2001 looked and played better, and was an improvement if you skipped 2000 and were still playing 99 or even moving from Madden 98 on the SNES. Similarly, Madden 2001 does a fine job of looking and playing like a less powerful version of its PS2 counterpart for those who didn't or couldn't shell out for a new console. If you, or anyone else reading this enjoys video game football and is sick of the most recent installments by EA (Madden 20-22) and want to go back to when the franchise was well made and fun to play, I can suggest the following titles: Madden 05-08 on the PS2 or Xbox Classic and Madden 12 & 25 (14, but it was named 25 for the 25th anniversary of the game). I have heard that Madden 15/16 are solid on the PS4. It was 18-current where the game has become so buggy and unplayable for the last half decade.

I played the crap out of Tecmo Super Bowl 3 (the best football game at the time) on Super NES and I was hoping for a sequel on N64. Sadly, that never happened, so I had to get either Madden 64 or QB Club 98. The great marketing leading up to the release of QB Club 98 sold me on that game and I bought it day one and I was happy with the game. I didn’t care about Madden 64 due to no NFL license. Then my friend at work told me that Madden 64 was better because the tackling was more realistic , which was something that I never would have paid attention to had he not said anything. So I rented Madden 64 and I found he was right, QB Club 98’s tackling was trash compared to Madden 64. Despite this, the next year I bought QB Club 99 but I found the game to have a lot of glitches; the most annoying was that the game would freeze often requiring you to restart. After a couple months I ended up trading it for Madden 99 and I was much happier with that game.

Am not a fan of sports games but am I have no problem of EA they make as many sports games as long as they like for all I care. The problem I have with EA which everyone agrees with I don't they monopolies the NFL license so that won't be any competition against them. Without competition there products will become stale and will hurt them in the long run. Another thing it is sad what EA has become they use to make good games that everyone can enjoy back in the 4th-6th generations of consoles. Now by the time they gone everyone is going to only remember them for the bad things they did. P.S. What is your opinion on the Madden games on the GameCube though Wii U?

If you didn't put the cam on the golden eye first person and try to play like a real QB. You never played madden on 64

theres another part to understand as a Packers fan or bengals fan. Quarterback club has the better box cover with the best touchdown pic Farve Ever threw, and its a throw that beat the bengals......

2002 is obviously the best, because it has classic mode. The N64 was great for many things. But 3D sports games it was not. Give me the old SNES/Genesis Maddens over any of these games ('02 classic mode excluded of course). Until the Dreamcast came along. 3D sports games pretty much sucked across the board.
