Of course there are alot of light weight competitors to Trangias classic system. Especially when it comes to boil water. But for actual cooking, weather proof (storm), simplicity, choice of burners/fuel and prepper functionality, it's hard to beat. 💪🔥

Great comparisons of the various options from Trangia. Sometimes I bring my small T-25 with me, only to make coffee.Then it would be handy to have the smallest option. But in many cases I prepare a Thermos before I go and it is just as convenient to bring along on my daytrips.
@Braapncamp
@Braapncamp Жыл бұрын
You are spot on, we are raised up with bringing a termos for daytrips and this is definitely more convenient. Also make more time to enjoy the moment instead of focus on tech stuff/stoves 😁. But for weekend trips i bring both let's say the Mini T28 and a small termos. When making breakfast coffee i also fill the termos to use later during the day. The T27 and T25 offer a better storm proof solution though, ready to race in any weather.
@rogerharris3951

Both have their place, depending upon the circumstances. When it is really cold, or I am in a hurry, I bring a vacuum flask: much more convenient than fussing with a stove (any stove). When I am not in a rush, using a stove is a pleasant exercise (and an excuse to ‘stop and smell the roses’).

The hole in the kettle lid isn't there just to let out steam. It allows air to enter the kettle as you pour. This prevents the kettle "glugging" as it empties and ensures a smooth pour. A tidy design.

Brilliant review/comparison Mattias. I recently ordered my Micro direct from the Trangia webshop as you can't find them out here in Malaysia. Less than 7 days to reach me ! Used it for the first time yesterday to boil up some noodles and it's perfect for that. I also have the Mini and a 27 UL HA as I love my Trangia kit although I'll admit to being a late starter to the Brand after years of using a variety of other gas or petrol-based stoves. I now realise I should have gone the Trangia route years ago. Pretty much out every day now with the Mini for tea and a small cook up locally and so pleased the Micro has now given me another option for those quick bikepacking or hiking trips of a couple of hours duration😁

Good idea about the small fold a cup fitting in there, thanks for the tip Mattias. I've bought a micro and made porridge/ oatmeal in it, warmed soup and boiled water for tea. It's a nice little stove for dehydrated meals. I can recommend having the handle up when using the stove, as the burner is a bit flamey and melted the plastic on mine a little bit.

Thanks for the tips Sarah, very much appreciated. I have just made coffee on my micro a couple of times so far. Two times withbthe alco burner and one time withbthe multifuel burner. Oatmeal and warm soups sounds great. Thats what i plan as well. I like the small format and ease to use. It is rather quick to boiler water even withbthe alco burner. Last but not least, love to have one more to the collection to choose 😂🙌💪🔥

Yes. I have been seeing complaints about the handle melting away on the new kit 🙄 With a company like this, one would trust they work this stuff out thoroughly BEFORE going to market. Another issue, which has never been fixed, are the little knubs inside the nonstick pan on the mini set. The nonstick material wears away from slipping it on and off when packing it up and unpacking. The nonstick material literally shreds away at those two points. That’s not good. AND, this also happens on all the nonstick pans including for the 25, and the 27: at the outside rim edge and on the interior side walls when using the pot grabbers - they scuff off the nonstick! Very simple fix: incorporate silicone material to make contact with the pan. Done. They don’t seem to do anything about it. I love my Trangia‘s, but it irks me that quality control on this stuff isn’t fool proof, especially for the prices they charge.

There are definitely details or niggles to improve, not that it makes different in function or performance but for sure the mind. Regarding the Rubber on the Micro handle, it is removeable like it is on the new'er kettles. I have not melted mine yet but have only used it 3 times so far and Sarahs tip on folding up the handle is good if nor renoving the rubber part.

Very good video! Trangia is not a big thing here in North America, but it has its followers that's for sure :) The two major downsides are the fuel availability and the pot/stand windshield that is real bad.
@Braapncamp
@Braapncamp 11 ай бұрын
Thanks, over here You find ethanol or methylated ethanol "everywhere", gas stations and grocery stores. At these two stoves, the potstand is rather simple but works. On the larger 27 or 25, the porstand/windshields are really great or brilliant. True storm cookers.

@@Braapncamp ethanol or methylated ethanol are, mostly, sold at hardware stores here in Canada. Different countries, different mentality i guess lol :) I liked your video so much that I've subscribed.

🙏 i know the US guys use heep or something from the gasstations. (Anti freeze for carburettors). Probably more expensive than buying ethanol from hardware stores. But with this said, If I go for longer trips i use outdoor gas canisters. Just for the convenience and since I also have a gasburner for the larger Trangia stoves. I ofthen use the T27 on my motorcycle adventures. Thanks!
@DiabloOutdoors
@DiabloOutdoors 11 ай бұрын
@@Braapncamp Actually it's HEET, not heep 😁. There are two versions, the red bottle and the yellow bottle. The red one is better. But HEET is used with homemade alcohol stoves. I don't know if it'd work with Trangia. Probably yes. HEET is in USA only, not in Canada and I'm checking what's the equivalent in Canada. I'll post the result here. There are so many stoves on the market that you have to restrain yourself, but it's sometimes hard LOL Have you heard about the Bushbuddy stove? It's very lightweight and doesn't need any fuel (gas). You simply use twigs, pine cones, etc... So never a problem of fuel and it's more ecological!
@Braapncamp
@Braapncamp 11 ай бұрын
HEET it is 😂🙌 As a stoveoholic i for sure know about small wood stoves and woodgas stoves. Have a few of them two types 👀☝️😁. These figurates in some older videos i have. They could often be combined with Trangias alcoburner as well, just in case or just for convenience. I have a nice stash of hiking gear but stoves stands out as collection.

I didn't know about Trangia before Mattias...so I got the "27" for its size, and general versatility. Its taken me a while to move off of my gas, and trust this Trangia system, but use it more now and like it. I think it (Trangia 27) does take up more space than modern gas burners, which can matter when packing a motorcycle. To be like the cool kids I've use the Überleben Zünden Fire Starter instead of a lighter....😁 I've also found you need use the right fuel, it makes a big difference in how hot and how clean it burns. For me, Solvable Methyl Hydrate is excellent - super hot, fast and clean burning. I feel it boils water faster than my gas burner did. This is a question for the Master - is there a way to modulate the burner, in other words, lower the flame for slower cooking? Finally, I have to put this in - in my general area, bears are almost like rats - there are a lot - cooking eggs and bacon for breakfast would be awesome, but probably attract the wrong kind of friends to camp. Hence, its better to boil water for dried food, cleaner, less smell, faster. Having said that I know I will try it sometime, somewhere, will just need to vacate the area, leave some cooked bacon smell for the next camper, LOL!. 😆
@Braapncamp
@Braapncamp Жыл бұрын
😂 sounds great to prepare the area for next campers 🙌🤣. Our brown bears couldn't care less about campers making breakfast. They avoid humans. The simmer ring on the alco burner actually works great to control the flame and temp. There are alot of videos on this out there. Takes time and practical though. Good to praktisera on some means at home. That makes the outdoor cooking experiences much better. I also agree on the 27, it is the best system if you just have one to choose fot different type of 1-2 person hikes / activities. So versatile and a true storm cooker. Many other systems can not be compared in really bad weather.

I use the gasburner on longer trips since I think gascylinders is more predictable (or at least somewhat) and more convenient to use over time. But I pretty much always use the alcoburner for day or weekend trips. The X2 Multifuel is good to have in other ways, prepping or to share the same fuel for my bike as to the stove (sparefuel fore bike or the other was around), I seldom bring it if I don't do it for fun or really need it.

I use the 27, but I don't use the whole kitchen most of the time. I leave the frypan, 2 bowls and potgrip at home and only use kettle for everything. I wish they redesign 27 system with ultralight in mind. One vessel (with a bail) kit. I love the stability of 27, it even works at 16 degree tilt. I'm not liking those lightweight solutions trangia has. Often use stove in a tent. And 27 is my best choice. Followed by primus lite+.

I totally agree on every point here and as well Your favourite order. With that said I have appreciated my Mini T28 and ir have never let me down. Very high fuel consumtion though in wind. Have you seen the nice mods people do with the Mini? The use T27 pots and make it looking like a Mini 27/25. Trangia should do one of these designs as well. One combo i like is my Triangle and just the 27 kettle. The Triangle burns better than Mini/Micro stand. 💪🔥

I like mine. After messing with it. I managed to get into it a remote feed alcohol stove with simmer ring from Batchstovez. One 2 ounce bottle of fuel for the remote feed, and two 1/2oz bottles of alcohol. One 5ml bottle of dish soap An Aluminium windscreen I cut out of a msr windscreen so like the super heavy duty foil. And 1/4 a bandana An atleast by feel. Feels around the same weight as it originally was but has the ability to have 3oz of fuel an soap in it an the bandanna. Probably still has just enough room for a mini bic lighter I also seasoned the pot with veg oil for a few rounds in the oven for a golden more non stick inside

@@Braapncamp I’ll stick up a short or something with it an try to figure out how to link it in in the next few days most likely. Still kicking around different options. I have a ton of cook kits. But something with this micro Trangia I wanted to try an get it to fit everything in it. Still need to find a spork or something that can decently be put in it that will work. Even if some fuel comes out. But definitely wanted everything from fuel an soap an stove an everything to go along with cooking to all fit in. Atleast for a meal maybe 2 just because.
