GLIDE BAITING FLATHEAD | Not A Numbers Game.

This session I'm back out trying to achieve my goal of a big flathead on a glide bait. The conditions start off favourable but quickly deteriorate along with my chances of glide baiting any flathead. I persevere for as long as I can and manage to get a few ghosting's but none that will commit to the bait. In the end I fall back to my confidence bait in and attempt to land a fish and try to catch back up to my fishing buddy for the day.

So something I like to do when flicking for flathead, is to leave a rod in a holder and drag a large plastic under the boat, making sure its off the bottom. Live bait works best. Found big flathead using the boats shadow to hunt with.

Yeah when I was younger I’d do something similar mate. All about the cast and retrieve these days.

Yeah I know how to catch numbers but just keen to figure out how to consistently raise a fish or two on glides for now.

people get so rapped up in the catch and release thing these days to help preserve the fishery and thats great ,, but there is also nothing wrong with taking a few fish home to munch on,, after all, we all started fishing with the goal to take home a feed

Yeah I’m down with that every now and then mate. I’m just conscious about the amount of fish I catch and could keep and if I did and others did the same the pressure put on the fishery is more than could handle. That’s why I limit my take in hopes that others do the same.

I’m not a fan of all the unnecessary extra movement and the chest gives you a quick and easy option of checking the lens is clean which comes into its own when offshore in rough conditions or salt spray is flying around. Each to their own though mate.

There is one big fish out there for you. Time on the water high tide or low morning or arvo. I prefer morning but this arvo I am going to throw the Slapstick 9 inch wading the flats. Keep going.

Hi Liam, you got your leccy back from Minn repair?, well done, ive been waiting 3 weeks or so now, parts in short supply, and if i was using those glide baits ( and i wouldn't, Too hard lol) i would be trying to impart and more erratic action to make it look like a wounded fish, for mine slow rolling doesnt look like a catchable fish to a flathead i reckon..

Yeah parts and anything mass produced China are hard to come by at the moment. The main bait I’ve been throwing is a slow sink so slow and twitchy is hard to do over the sea grass but I’m working on making the most of what I’ve got for now. Ordered some new baits do see how we go mate.
