All I'm saying is.. $800.00... vs $200.00... for maybe anywhere between 10% to 20% increase in quality with some of these quirks you could fix post buying the flycam(lubrication, glue for the handle, wearing in the gimbal in, etc.) Unless you do work for huge brands you don't need a glidecam. I mean for $800 why not just buy a Ronin-S? I have a Ronin S and ironically I've been looking for a glidecam to replace it heh. I mean the setup time for a fully rigged BMPCC 4k is very long especially because you need an offset plate, which requires a flat head screw driver, to fasten onto your base. So I had to do it again I would've just bought a cheap glide cam, a very good tripod head and a slider.

@@flipnap2112 I agree with your theory, but this isn't about "not having spare money", this is about those who want the best results, and most of the time you have to pay for that. With the Flycam work for most? Absolutely. I used it for two years. And then I started to outgrow it because the design "flaws" were starting to show and that's where the more expensive Glidecam shines. At the end of the day, a professional isn't worried about $400 for superior results, even if it's just the smallest. Why are people shooting in 6 and 8k when 90% of the population watches everything on devices 1080 or equivalent? Because they want the best, it's as simple as that.

Either the unit Parker received didn't get glued the MFR saw his video and improved the unit further! With regard to the Allen wrench for attaching the head, my unit came with an Allen wrench. Also, not mentioned in Parker's video, I was pleasantly surprised that the Flycam was delivered with a super nice carry case with a shoulder strap and custom foam protection. As a first time user of a gimbal, I'm very happy and enjoying learning how to use it and excited for higher quality videography! Thanks Parker! I had not really considered the Flycam until your comparison. I was looking more at an electronic gimbal to fly my C100/C200, BMCPro 4.6 type cameras but when you do the add-ons for wireless video, wireless FIZ, and filters, the cost of an electronic gimbal becomes astronomical to have the cushion in payload required. These little 5 lbs cameras quickly become 10-12 lbs cameras. I already have a couple of Zhiyuns and an old Glidecam V-16. I have learned a lot about both and before investing into stabilizer tech either electronic or "Newtonian". One must really look at how future changes and personal growth will affect what one buys. I am not of the camp that likes to trade gear in every 6 months, so I try to take the best information in and hopefully get at least 3 good years of use out of my gear. (17 years for the Glidecam so far) For this price point, I took a chance and picked up the Redking along with the Galaxy arm and vest for less than the DGS alone! The RedKing is awesome! Now, I can retire my V-16!! Today, I am modding the Redking to put all my wires inside the post. THANKS FOR A GREAT REVIEW!!!

While it would be cool to see him do a review of a sony camera, he would probably say "I'm not a big fan of sony's color science." He'd probably, just like any person not looking to keep the camera, would just use one of sony's crappy in-box settings without changing the tools that sony gives us to use (knee,black level, hue, color depth, color mode, etc..) which wouldn't be fair. I wouldn't mind maybe sharing my settings to him if he ever considered to review a sony camera. The profile is based off of DG's profile, so it would fit his style.

just had to go into the comments to say: the word "gimbal" typically refers to a motorized stabilizer, such as the Ronin SC, which is battery powered to keep the camera movement as smooth as possible, whereas a "stabilizer" or "steadicam" usually refers to something with weights and balances to keep the camera stable. just want to put that out there, as this Parker referred to these terms basically interchangeabley.
@GlynHarrison5 жыл бұрын
I thought the same but it's not really the case. The alignment of bearings wich allow the stabilization is the gimbal... From Wikipedia: 'A gimbal is a pivoted support that allows the rotation of an object about a single axis. ... For example, on a ship, the gyroscopes, shipboard compasses, stoves, and even drink holders typically use gimbals to keep them upright with respect to the horizon despite the ship's pitching and rolling.'

Yeah sorry have to disagree. I love glidecam; I'm sure its amazing and was worth to you paying $300 more of what it should be because it still is a great product, but realistically I think most people can see that the price is way too expensive even if they love their dgs glidecam. Its awesome that you enjoy it and are getting great use out of it. But for me, at that point I might as well buy a pistol grip gimbal and add another great tool to my gear list.
@Ben-fq1lj6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but every hundred or fifty dollars adds up quickly. If that's all we needed in film making, then yeah, it'd be reasonable. But we have to buy much more than a camera, a lens, and a glidecam. We need more options than a 16-35mm lens (I found that out the hard way starting off).

Specially after getting use to that slight friction. Electronics you get what you pay for too. The flycam is excellent for two hundred although the Glidecam is better for eight. Well you don't need 5 takes with the glidecam if you're good with it. If anything you just need practice. When I first used a steadicam, I had a good shot maybe 1/5 times, but after you get good, you get the right shot 100% of the time, just like with the zhiyun crane.

All of the Glide Cams take time to get used to. You should not base it on a single test or use. You have to "get used to it". Your arms muscle memory will then kick in and it will get easier.

Got myself a redking after watching this and i loved it. Thanks parker! For people saying they cant afford either of them, just saw that redking ( used) is availble for $137 on proaim.ca .. i think proaim manufacturers redking or something.. i got a couple of used equipment from the site and it is all sick! got a great deal.wish i knew about the used equipment when buying redking, could have saved a couple of bucks. Good luck people!

I think that you don't have to go gym, your gymming has been already done with these heavy equipment,don't you?

For everyone saying get the crane over Glidecam, I would agree however you are limited with weight for cameras on the crane 2. I want to switch but at the same time I do a ton of freelance work and typically will be putting Cinema cameras on the DGS. So I would give the DGS a big advantage there over crane 2. Nice review!

fedor3000 With a zhiyun gimbal you don't get that natural walking movement like the steadicam
@teivagrant13866 жыл бұрын
Michael Zhang true but it still takes a few years of practice to get completely comfortable with it no?
@emilyjz6 жыл бұрын
Nicola Grant, I personally got very comfortable with it in just in a couple of weeks of practice and getting the right setup for my camera, so it really depends!

Nice, always been a big fan of the "Laing" Handheld Stabilizer for around $200-250 on Amazon & Ebay. Super easy to level and with a Manfrotto quick release plate (

Thank you for this video. It clearly shows you take your video making seriously and are more worried with the message than looking like a flashy talk show presenter. I don't really like when people sound very electric and jumpy all cheered up and hyper-motivated as if they had sniffed something. Well done and valuable info! BTW: Nice home and good horse stance too! :)

Put some adhesive foam strips on the shaft of the FlyCam or even out a simple 1/2 screw into the shaft for your thumb to manipulate to adjust for that sticky feeling you’re talking about. Sometimes we gotta modify our equipment to fit our own needs 👍🏻 So far it seems the FlyCam is the real winner when you account for the price. Great review bro!

To fix the grip problem, go to walmart and get like a $5 bike handle grip. It will never come off after that 👌🏻 Also this is an updated version of the redking. I have one of the originals and you can’t even tell the difference of the DGS and RedKing

Could anyone confirm if the head of the fly cam screws onto the pole of the glide cam? Would save me having to buy a full DGS glidecam just to get the head off it
