A flight i was dreaming a long time about. After two unsuccessful attempts in the past i did another try to fly a World Record in the FAI (World Air Sports Federation) 13,5m class with my Silent 2 Electro.
See how it went on that day and if my dream became reality!

when i was a normie, i thought pilots are real pilots. when i became one myself, i thought taildraggers make real pilots. now that i fly taildraggers, i come more and more to the conclusion that sailplanes make real pilots... i think i have a new goal for 2021 :) thanks for the inspiration and congrats for this awesome flight!

Thank you for your comment! Having a goal and try to reach it makes yourself a better pilot i think, regardsless which planes you fly. But ... flying gliders is really awesome, i guarantee you :-D! And thank you for your congratulations!

That was not only a superb flight but a very well edited video, this also shows that on a mega day in Europe 1000 km out and return is possible in the 13.5 meter class.

Thank you Bill! Yes, considering that i would have had 2-3 hours more with a better speed, there is still a lot of potential! Especially when you consider energy lines like the one at the end over more than 100km :-). I think we will see a big increase in record distance in the 13,5m class in the near future :-)!

Hello from Australia. That is a hell of a long way for such a little glider. Has the 13.5m class had much success as far as numbers taking them up? I know Lak make one. Are there any other manufacturers?
@RudisGlidingAdventures
@RudisGlidingAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, I think Lak is the manufacturer who produces the greatest number of 13,5m gliders. In my opinion those gliders are very underestimated. I see this very often when other glider pilots come to me and say: hey, I didn’t know that this little glider flies so great 😀

Congrats, job well done. With the Silent 2, about how much reserve do you have after self-launching? Thanks.
@RudisGlidingAdventures
@RudisGlidingAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Michael, thank you for your congratulations! The reserves strongly depend on the altitude, in which you can stop the engine to continue flying using thermals. Often you only need 20% or 30% to catch the thermals, as you can stop the engine very soon. The advantage is, that if the thermal does not work, you can switch the engine on immediately. This leads to very few energy needed.

Your glider is registered as D-M... and not D-K... . Does that mean the Silent 2 Electro is an ultralight? Do you need a PPL to fly it? Or does a LAPL(S) suffice?
@RudisGlidingAdventures
@RudisGlidingAdventures Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes the Silent is certified as Ultralight. In Austria our authority approves it to fly with a LAPL(S). In other parts of the World you need an ultralight license to fly ✈️
@RoelBaardman
@RoelBaardman Жыл бұрын
@@RudisGlidingAdventures Ah, lucky you! Is the approval for LAPL(S) strictly for the Silent 2 Electro?
@RudisGlidingAdventures
@RudisGlidingAdventures Жыл бұрын
@@RoelBaardman the approval is always valid for the specific registration number. So every owner needs to get it (if wanted) for his machine
@RoelBaardman

@@RudisGlidingAdventures Ah, that's clear! And is your approval valid in all EASA countries or only in austrian airspace?

@RudisGlidingAdventures
@RudisGlidingAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Srikar, i needed about 7h for the task. Afterwards i added two more hours of fun flying, so i did about 9h in total :-). Min. altitude was once about 850m above sea level, max. altitude about 2550m :-)

Wie würdest du den Silent gegenüber anderen Flugzeugen einschätzen ? Clubklasse oder besser ?
@RudisGlidingAdventures
@RudisGlidingAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Ich würde sagen, der/die Silent liegt ziemlich bei einer LS1f oder LS4. Durch die Wölbklappen hat man halt noch einen Stellhebel mehr zur Verfügung 😀
