can you fly from Albania crossing the Adriatic sea to Italy with a glider? or is it to far
@RudisGlidingAdventures
@RudisGlidingAdventures 10 сағат бұрын
Hi! There have been flights made along the adriatic coast during strong notheasterly winds. That triggered waves in which Slovenian pilots were able to fly till Albania (and back btw), reaching several thousands of metres of altitude. I could imagine then crossing the adriatic sea with tailwind until Italy. Presently some glider pilots are using this technique to fly from France to korsika and sardinia and further to Italy. So I am pretty sure that from a metereological point of view it should be possible. What I don't know if there are any small airfields in Albania with gliders and glider pilots? Do you know any? I am be curious about that 😃

I had some very good initial feelings with Hawk but I have had quite misleading days with it too. Sometimes when low I have been stuck in thermals that Hawk signaled as positive enough but I realized my altitude was going down. It is not a good surprise to realize that when you have little margin. Also in other thermals when Hawk was barely positive and I went up solidly. I started with a lot of trust after the trial period but I have put back the sound back to TEK which seems to me now that is less reliable at the start, more false positives and more time lag, but more reliable when staying in the thermal. Maybe I have something wrong, but I have had both experiences. My negative surprise was how much you tend to trust vario sound, up to the point where it can get you into a bit of trouble by staying in a too weak thermal for longer than needed.

Hello Enrique, thank you very much for your comment! I share your thoughts and after some years of experience I Plan to do a follow-up video on that topic. I have learned quite some lessons with it where I think it is worth to share. By the way: I still fly with both needles enabled (HAWK and TEK) and I am struggling if I should put back the audio of the variometer to TEK. Besides of that I love the horizontal wind indication, in particular in mountainous terrain I never want to miss ist again!

Hi Rudy, I owned a KA 6CR in the late 70's. Entered a few sports class contests and flew it a lot. I sold it and purchased a Standard Cirrus. It's true that the performance and characteristics are vastly different but flying KA 6CR would bring a smile to any sailplane pilots face, as it did to yours.

Hi, for level flight are approximately 4-5kW are required ... it seems like your motor is just a little too less powerful 🫤

One of the best enthusiastic sailplane videos i have seen; beautiful cloud level soaring in a great ship. As a kid in the mid 60's, I spent my weekends in Rockwall, TX, where my late-father flew another classic, a Schweizer 1-26, but I knew he actually coveted the Ka6cr which a few guys flew at the club. Years later, in my early adulthood, I bought myself a 1-26 and loved every minute of it. After a couple of years, I moved up to another classic, a Standard Libelle 201b, that was an amazing and easy ship to fly; not so easy to land, ha. Great times for sure.

This appears to be the best powered implementation for glider purists who wish to forego the tow line, and as you rightly point out, there's a big difference between a retractable and built-in motor. I hope the electric powered glider industry will pursue this technology further. If I was going to purchase my own glider, this is the exact type I would get.

When I took up gliding in 1964 I was 20 and the Ka6 was the clubs 'hot ship'. It took 3 or for 4 years before I got a seat in it. Then we got a 301 Libelle!

I flew a K8 in wave to 18000 feet from a low point of 300 feet in 1982, no oxygen,radio,parachute or electric vario just an old ticking barometer behind my head lol and no warm clothing sheesh I was 30 years old then, Im 72 now and the memory is still vivid, I got my gold height award for that and landed at dusk after a few hours airborne once I found a hole in the clouds to spiral down through...the beer tasted good after that I tell ya.

Danke, ja ich bin superhappy! Es sind letztes Jahr einige Dinge zusammengekommen, die mich dazu gebracht haben, da jetzt die Umrundung der TMA Prag durchzuziehen. Egal was am Abend dabei herausgekommt.
