I forgot to mention when I commented on the other video you did solo on Cirice. When they perform it live, Tobias will pick a female out of the audience during the "Have you seen that your lost....." section just before the solo, bend down on a knee, take their hand and sing directly to them. It is called "Getting Ciriced".

Just watch some of the live fan shot video from A Pale Tour Named Death or Rats on the Road tours. The ghost Reddit channel also had people reporting in who it happened to. Early Ghost, specially the first album Opus Epnoymous, was much more metal than their latest stuff, that's why they're considered under the metal folder. Nowadays they've ventured more into the theatrical and pop side of rock. The lead singer, Tobias Forge, is a huge fan of both theatre, classic rock, death metal, ABBA etc. and you can hear a lot of those influences in their music, making them hard to "place" as their songs are of such huge variety, even on one and same album. Personally I prefer the older Ghost and the first two records, but their entire discography is amazing in their own way. Tobias also writes everything, not only the lyrics. He does the guitar riffs, bass lines etc as well. Hugely talented musician and singer.

I am glad I listened to different genres through different eras in my life. I still change up genres of todays music as well as the past, can't stop enjoying all different music. I think it helped me be more open to different views, I hope to pass it on to my children. That being said, good for you to pass different styles of music on to your daughter, I think it is a small and simple thing to do that has a huge impact on us psychologically.

well, i found this online: Papa Emeritus III told Diablo Rock: Initially, this song was thought of as a complete dome theme, with an even longer intro-“Devil Church.” As we already had other songs that had these great refrains we thought about leaving long choruses out. But in a coffee break, the chorus appeared out of nowhere and we put aside our dome theme without chorus and ended with a heavy power ballad. Lyrically, it is a simulation of the relationship between religious authority (church or sect) against the small person who can not differentiate empathy from pure manipulation. Everything disguised as a love song.

Dad - with all due respect, I think you lead your daughter way too much in terms of the music that you want her to listen to. I think that you should not give her quite so much background on every single song, and then don't be sad when she doesn't wanna turn around and introduce it to her friends. Let's face it - did we always liked the music that our parents listened to? Nope. Maybe we came to appreciate it later on, and maybe we didn't. All you can do is introduce her to a wide variety and let her choose for herself. If you tell her that lots of people want her to like this, you kind of put her in a tough situation. And please be aware that she acts extremely normal for her age group. I mean I could predict just about everything she's going to say before she says it because I work with a lot of kids that age. It's a phase and she'll most likely outgrow it, but she'll still remember this time period. She will remember the funny things that you do together, probably not the music that you introduce her to. Just enjoy this time together, and don't put pressure on her to like anything - cause, let's face it, she probably won't. Just enjoy your time together.

Ghost definitely do try to emulate an older metal sound so I can see your daughter's point about "old style". Those of us who have been metal heads for years can hear a difference between e.g. early Sabbath or Dio or that sort of thing, but it owes enough to those pioneers that people who don't generally listen to metal could easily mistake them for being a much older band. I thought your take on Rats was pretty interesting. I took it much more as a critique on the church, specifically the Roman Church, coming early for your soul with threats of damnation if you turn away. I do think you're maybe leading a bit much and giving too much away about the songs which could colour your daughter's opinion of the music, maybe let her come in a bit colder to it to get a pure reaction, or listen to something together neither of you have heard to avoid that. Or if you're feeling brave listen to something she recommended ;)

I would say it's about what you said at surface level, but you can figure that through the lyrics. I think it could also be about "cult" practices where cults lure people in by saying that they're better and more perfect than what society has told them. And that they are welcomed and accepted there. When they actually don't care about you but using you for their own agendas. It could even be about that in respects to an actual church... considering that's what the title translates to. That's what I like about Ghost. They use Satanic and religious imagery for their surface level meanings, but then you can pick out more deeper layers riddled in.

From what I understand of the lyrics I think the song is only passing up as a come to our satan cult, but really is a denunciation of how cults and sects and even religions tend to prey on the people that feel alone or afraid. The "Can't you see that you're lost without me" really sounds like a sentence a guru could say to someone who would try to leave after being part of a cult for a while. Great vid it's nice to see that by just listening to music while she was younger you have kind of influenced her to broaden her horizons in matters of music ! :)

Ghost is awesome. The most original I have heard in a long time. It's not easy to wear masks now days and get away with it. My 8 year old and 2 year old LOVE this band and especially this song. I could bet you when my oldest Son gets home from school he will listen to Cirice. It's awesome to see parents without a stick up their ass, caught up in religious nonsense. Awesome way to raise your kids!

You may want to show her either "He Is" (if for no other reason than said 'cautionary tale' beign delivered w/such style, or 2 - listen together to Mary on a Cross.) I'd recommend the live recording in Mexico... Calling it epic..? is a MASSIVE understatement.

Everyone needs to have a reaction video of Meshuggah - 'Clockworks' or 'Bleed'. At the Gates (anything from the album Slaughter of the soul). Opeth - Blackwater park.

Tobias Forge obscured his identity behind a succession of characters bearing the title of "Papa Emeritus". Portrayed by Forge in a prosthetic mask and makeup, the persona has been described as a "demonic anti-pope", and has undergone five incarnations: I, II, III, Nihil, and IV. For the band's 2018 album Prequelle and subsequent world concert tour A Pale Tour Named Death, Forge played a character known as "Cardinal Copia", who is described as being unrelated to the prior Papa Emeritus characters. Copia's costume consists of either cardinal vestments or a black or white tuxedo; he also sports a prosthetic mask with black eye makeup and multi-colored eyes, features which are present in each Papa character. In March 2020, at the final show of A Pale Tour Named Death, Copia was promoted to the title of "Papa Emeritus IV", a persona which Forge has continued to use for the album Impera and its associated concert tour, Imperatour.

The intro feels like a homage to Slayer, especially "South Of Heaven". In places it is pop through a metal filter. Perhaps Rainbow did it in the 80's and some of the hair-metal bands. Melodic, lot of hooks but enough spike to differ it from pure guitar pop.

Awesome video and the reason I like them is they seem sound like the soundtrack to a universal monster movie

What is that movie or video clip that you mentioned, and there's a remake of?

Tobias plays several characters over the course of Ghost's tenure. Originally he was Papa Emeritus I . Then he played his "Brother" Papa Emeritus II. This one in this video is Papa Emeritus III. All three of them are the Sons of the Original Papa, Papa Nihil. (SP) They all have been removed from the lead of the band (And killed) The current frontman of Ghost is Cardinal Copia. A very promising Cardinal who's been an Employee of the month twice (This is actually part of the ongoing story) Papa Nihil isn't too pleased since all the Papa's that have ever fronted the band have been from his blood line. His father was Papa, His Father's Father, His Father's Father's Father.... (This too is also from storyline) Tobias Forge has played all of them. It's a great bit of storytelling. (you can catchup on all the story on the Band's KZbin.)

Ghost did a cover one of Beatles songs early in the band's career

Not sure if anyone else has clarified the genre, but they are more of a gothic metal type. Which should be taken vaguely as they don't follow it completely, but when I think of Ghost, that is the genre that comes to mind and best describes their sound.

You should show her some music by Motion Device. The lead vocalist for the band is still in high school.
