Gloating Russians wiped out after digging tunnel under Ukrainian lines in Toretsk

A Russian war blogger revealed a tunnel Putin’s men used to get behind Ukrainian lines. The gloating propagandist said the tunnel was dug in the town of Toretsk, near Avdiivka. Video shows the blogger crouched in the shaft holding a rifle and a shovel. The footage emerged as Russia made a sudden advance in the area. But Ukraine’s 95th Air Assault Brigade claimed to have the situation in hand. Drone footage shows an armoured vehicle from the brigade hitting Russian positions. The vehicle drives down a narrow street and peppers the buildings with shells. It approaches one building with a caved-in roof where Russian troops are hiding. And then uses its auto-cannon to hammer the units taking cover there. More footage shows a Ukrainian tank hitting another Russian hiding spot. The war machine unloads shells into the building, where Storm Z units are based. Yet more thermal-vision drone footage shows Russian vehicles being hit. One BMP is hit by a drone or rocket, loses control and hits an electric line. A Russian ammo dump is then blown up at distance using rockets or shells.
The Ukrainians then successfully target a tank, blowing it to smithereens. FPV drones are used to blow up at least three Russian BMPs. Before a Ukrainian tank opens fire on a Russian base inside a building. Toretsk is located west of Avdiivka, a Ukrainian stronghold now in Russian hands.
Russia has been trying to press its advantage and advance beyond the city. It has met with success, with the Ukrainians forced to cede ground. However the advance has also come at a high cost in men and materiel. #russia #ukraine #war

This is is the first time I've heard about Russian tunneling efforts but especially from a historical standpoint, they make perfect sense. And it is an ominous new development by an underestimated foe, whom so many are far too ready to dismiss as ineffectual, as they are the Russian army. From WW1 and even before, armies have been willing to expend massive efforts to tunnel under enemy lines. During the horrific trench battles of WW1, the British forces spent two years to quietly dig a massive underground pit beneath the German trenches. To do it right, the British even summoned the coal miners in their ranks and ordered them to apply their expertise at digging. They filled the pit with an estimated 1 million pounds of high explosives, and on June 7, 1917 the British detonated the lot at 3:10 AM. Approximately 10,000 German troops were killed in one massive detonation. After that, more attention was paid to tunnelling on both sides. On the western front 1914-1918, both sides had men devoted to listening for signs of enemy digging (the ground transfers sound much like water).

The Russians have successfully used tunnels quite a few times now. They do surprise and kill Ukrainians, but any gains they make are usually quickly recovered and the troops dealt with. A recent attack using elite troops gained some areas, but they were all wiped out with a sudden and almost instant counter attack with Bradelys, infantry and drones.

Man you gotta give it to the Ukrainians', russians, and past soviets. Every generation pretty much fought or is fighting in a war. These guys great grandparents were in ww1, their grandparents fought the great patriotic war, that was 1945. Their fathers most likely served in Afghanistan during the Soviet invasion... A lot of soldiers died in Afghanistan. Online it says that they had around 20-25k deaths during that war. Im not American...
