It's a Missile = guided. They need to lead that missile to it designated target. FIM-92 Stinger. The FIM-92 Stinger is an American man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS) that operates as an infrared homing surface-to-air missile (SAM). It can be adapted to fire from various ground vehicles, helicopters, and drones as the Air-to-Air Stinger (ATAS) 1. Here are some key details about the Stinger: Purpose: The Stinger provides short-range air defense against low-altitude airborne targets, including helicopters, UAVs, cruise missiles, and low-level aircraft 2. Features: Launch Platform: It can be shoulder-fired by a single operator (though standard procedure calls for two operators - a team chief and gunner). Target Acquisition: Unlike its predecessor, the FIM-43 Redeye, the Stinger can acquire targets head-on, allowing more time to engage and destroy the threat. Specifications: Length: 5.0 ft (1.52 m) Diameter: 2.8 in (70 mm) Weight (missile only): 22 lb (10.1 kg) Maximum Speed: Mach 2.54 (1,930 mph; 864 m/s) Effective Firing Range: Up to 15,700 feet (4,800 m) Low-Altitude Engagement Range: Up to 12,500 feet (3,800 m) Guidance System: Infrared homing 1. The Stinger has been in service since 1981 and is used by the United States and 29 other countries. It’s a versatile and effective system for protecting troops and assets against aerial threats 1. The Su-25 was built with the same thing in mind as the A-10. People argue which is better but the fact still stands, they can take a fair amount of damage and still limp home. I've seen pics of both missing parts of wings, holes in fuselages that you can crawl into, engines, and still somehow have the capabilities to control it well enough to land, let alone just get you back over friendly territory.
@SamBrickellАй бұрын
su 25 has always been inferior to the a10. The engines on the a10 are on stalks away from the fuselage and are protected (frontally) by the wing and if one engine is lost, the plane can fly home. The su25 put both engines next to each other and one being destroyed often destroys the other (so much so that they had to add an armored plate in between the engines later).

Also these manpads have really poor range and are only useful if you have big stationary long range anti-air to suppress enemy aircraft. Means that they had to fly low to prevent get hit by bigger systems. Only if you force them to fly low, you can hope to get them with manpads if they comming close. But for a FAB strike they dont come close either, they drop their bombs 50km + from your position. Only aircraft that closing in are SU-25. Thats the flying tanks you see on the end of the video. @@timwitt94 technic varies from generation to generation. There are plenty different target and guidance systems for the manpad rockets. An F35 will never get close to an manpad. At least not intentioned. Because newer systems (forcal-plane-array) and some old stuff (laser or optical manual aim) CAN hit it easier than a big radar guided SAM. So an ambush from a building or open plaines near an airfield is not impossible... USA delivered many of those systems to Afghanistan in the 70s and to Ukraine in the last 2 years. Poeple forget what those systems can do to a civil aircraft by criminals on the start or landing (normal flight height is too far) At least after a collapse of Ukraine or on an open war in the middle east, i whould not advise poeple to fly anywhere on the planet if it not absolutely necessary. It's a shame the abbreviation of the weapon system used, sounds like something incontinent men would use.......... But liked the video regardless.

Hezbollah imitated the same pattern to avoid radar detection and anticipation when targeting Israeli territory. The Ukraine vs Russia war had a major impact throughout the world on modern warfare.

The use of drones has changed things for sure. The tactics used by aircraft to avoid detection is well known. Nothing new there.

This video was released 10 hours ago as of me making this comment. But are any of these videos even recent? I know Russia is still doing bombing runs with jets, but I assumed they were doing those in places that had notably lesser anti-air capabilities.
@VektrumSimulacrumАй бұрын
They're using longer range aircraft deployed cruise missiles and glide bombs lunched from Russian air space or from behind the front line. With the russian navy chased out of the Black sea they are relying more on ships in the Caspian and Azov sea to deploy ship-mounted cruise missiles. Flying directly over unoccupied Ukraine has become significantly more risky. Iris-T, Patriot, StarStreak, SAMP/T, Geppards, HAWK and even Rheinmetall systems to a limited degree have been active in Ukraine. Most of this is from much earlier in the war. What you'll see more of now is MANPAD's hitting drones, cruise missiles and the odd helicopter ever now and then.
