There has been global outrage after Iran handed a death sentence to Iranian rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests following the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022. One supporter has told RFE/RL she hopes Tehran will back down to avoid sparking a new wave of mass protests.

People like to consider themselves free which is true in some parts of the world where you can criticize the leadership/government especially when they are doing something wrong but the interesting thing is even people of many countries where you can be imprisoned/murdered/punished for criticizing the government usually have a hard time admitting they are not truly free despite being fully aware they can't criticize their government.
