Turbo trainers are becoming more technically advanced and even race-event specific. I love the fact that you can train hard and increase strength and endurance for cycling without having to keep stopping at traffic lights, or having to avoid crazy traffic etc., It is a tool which more and more Pro teams and riders are using and rightly so. There's no substitute for riding outside in the "real world" with the elements to battle, but you can still make fantastic gains on your turbo trainer.

Fed pastries and probably coffee all while in the comfort of the warm car, being chauffeured around the course, wow Manon, you know how to do it right! However, I do know you know how the ladies felt during their ride as I watched you and Alex ride the Aronberg cobles a day or three ago. You got it right the second time around. On the whole, I did quite enjoy this insight into a recon, but I cringed when you were interviewing Lotte and went beyond the first question. I feel the follow-on questions should have been left out as she has already been asked those same ones dozens of times since ToF.

Thank you for the insights... The only thing I keep on wondering is, why women's races are (often so much) shorter then mens? I believe that these athletes could cope with the longer distances as well... Womens World Tour sometimes feels like a little different discipline than mens to me...
@gcn
@gcn 2 жыл бұрын
This is a big issue in cycling Robert, so here's a pretty long response...! The roots of this lie in sexism, in the belief that women were too physically frail to complete long distances. This is of course nonsense, however UCI rules still exist limiting the maximum length of women's races to a much lower distance than the men's maximum. Now, there are arguments both ways as to whether women's cycling should want longer races - shorter races often create a more exciting spectacle, but then long races have that endurance element which is a big part of pro cycling. It's great that we're talking about this though and important to keep raising awareness about and questioning the inequalities in cycling! 👍
@geoffreyhoney122
@geoffreyhoney122 2 жыл бұрын

I know I am in the minority but I dont follow the myth of a wet PR being better. Take the ladies race last year, to me it was wreaked because of the wet which allowed Deignan get away and prevented a real chase being formed due to the lack of traction. To me this turns a race of skill and strenght into one of luck.

I’m glad that Zwift has decided to sponsor the Paris-Roubais Femmes, and the womens’ Tour. They are getting HUGE publicity exposure for that. But why does GCN have to abandon impartiality and indulge in this unashamed infomercial? This erodes your cycling authority. I hate to see GCN selling out as a platform to be bought. Sexist attitudes like this are extremely damaging Chris. Women have been fighting for equal rights for a long time. The push for equal bike racing was not as notable as it is now because women had a massive number of even bigger barriers that they faced in everyday life which needed to be overcome before bike racing became a priority.
@chrisprice5895
@chrisprice5895 2 жыл бұрын
@@gcn equal rights and equal access is different. You are saying what a man can do,concessions for women ought be arranged so they too can perform the same occupation. Women's bike races are fully legit, but when ppl say men have been holding them back by not organizing races it's unfairly blaming men for the lack of popularity or economics of the matter, which is wrong. There should always be avenues for females to create an existence that is their choice,, that goes for anyone. But encouraging women to be the same as men is poison for the masses. Females ought be encouraged to be themselves and not be coherced, which they are more than men in advertisements and social/public propaganda. This way, by holding their own manifest, they will be happiest. Instead of doning masculine clothes and occupations. And again, I don't think 100 years ago women wanted their own Paris Roubaix. If they did back then, think how theyd want it to be; likely more fun, less bloody competitive, more familly-oriented and more comradory. Females, don't be mislead, don't believe all the little words tucked into movies and all sorts of media about how you are oppressed.. Women have a great wealth, a great need for them exists all over.. and literally training them to be less feminine, less likely to marry, be happy in marriage(due to demanding the same concessions and abilites as a man.) or raise children, or mentally stable children (some of the greater liberal kool-aid drinking women... Nevermind. You know) Nothing I said here on any posts was offending women. I definitely see the value in women, appreciate women and... IMO the words I say work for females happiness and the happiness of families. These large events, are opportunity for message disemination and tons of money is zooming around. Mannon, feminism is a business.
