It really was a great race. I do have to give credit to Lanterne Rouge for turning me on to women’s cycling. I never watched it and he started covering races so I got interested. I have to say there are A LOT of great women’s races. These ladies are phenomenal athletes.

yes kudos to LR; due to the (ever decreasing, happily) dearth of women's coverage it takes even more effort than that associated with the mere acquisition of familiarity with a new sport

Bike racing can be the most exciting and most dull sport ever. The tactics and individual stories make the race. I was absolutely transfixed by the last hour of this race and was convinced Jackson was toast after all that work she did. I did well up when she one. When they interviewed Truyen at the end and she was in bits because she was ecstatic with her 3rd place, I did genuinely started crying too.

The most well-deserved win in the history of the Paris Roubaix! She did most of the pacing work and coaching of the seven girl group, and the girl that got second deserved very little given the insignificant amount of support she gave to the group. Poetic Justice!
@Pupda
@Pupda Жыл бұрын
There's only been three, so there isn't really much "history of the Paris Roubaix!" to be the most well-deserved of. And I would argue that Lizzie Deignan's victory in the mess that was Paris-Roubaix Femmes 2021 was just as well-deserved, if not more.

That is some unbelievable determination! To start off in the lead, pump up the breakaway to work together and still have an edge over them on the boards. If not for the 5:45 moment, the race would have gone as "usual".

I know it's smart racing but I was so glad to see one of the women doing all the work in the breakaway hold of the strategic sitters-in, Ragusa especially who I never saw anywhere but at the very back every time the cameras pulled focus. She deserved second but a champion should be special and Jackson is certainly that! What a race!

At 5:15 come on, SD Worx, the captain of your team is 10 seconds away and would absolutely mop everyone in either of those groups in the velodrome. Drop Femke Markus back at this point and bridge that sh*t up! To paraphrase LR here: "LITERALLY WHAT THE F***!" Nevertheless, beautiful to see women in the break riding with their whole heart (and an extra set of legs on Jackson, seriously impressive ride) getting a deserved win.
@Tibovl
@Tibovl Жыл бұрын
I think they thought other teams would close. Trek had no rider in front and two people in the group behind, so they should have closed it. SD Worx still had decent odds to win the sprint with Markus who had been in the draft for 50k.

So good to see Action Jackson take it. I think the main reason the break didn't get caught is that Trek would pull and attack and Kopecky would always be on the wheel and not pull through. They aren't going to take her up there the way shes been going. I think Kopecky should have attacked herself, much better odds than just Merkus

What caused Femke Markus to crash in the velodrome? It looked like her front wheel locked up but that makes no sense unless it was a mechanical problem. I watched it a couple times and my only guess is that her front wheel slipped out in a weird way because of the bank of the track.

My only thought is that her front tyre had lost enough pressure throughout the race to fold as it hit the gap between the track and the banking. Looked like her front wheel started to wash and then she may have panic-braked and gone OTB

@robward10
@robward10 Жыл бұрын
I've been trying to figure this out for a bit now. Crash is at @6:39. I think its a combo of things here, slight nudge on right elbow pushes fork to the left. Low tyre pressure means tyre grips, rolls under and because weight is still even through front it continues the front wheel trajectory. I'm kind of amazing that she didn't take down the whole group !

Trek, UAE and Canyon had 2 riders on the chasing group and if they would've committed and sacrificed for their leader, they would've been able to catch the breakaway. You need to be willing to give everything for your leader but none of those riders (i.e, Bastianelli or Consonni, Brand and the UK champion) did and that cost them the race. Also, as other commenter said, the SD Worx rider on the breakaway should have dropped to bring Kopecky when the gap was just 10 seconds. No one committed, no one sacrificed, just random attacks. I don't agree with the ones that are labelling this as a "shitshow" but it's certainly not something to take as an example on how to race or to race as a team.

I feel a little badly for Femke. She made it to the velodrome and had a free ride for the last 20k only to bump handlebars and go down. But what a ride by Jackson. Did all that work and then finished it off.
