Күн бұрын

With just hours to go, U.S. President Donald Trump is not backing off his threat to slap crippling 25 per cent tariffs on Canada and Mexico, and 10 per cent tariffs on China. As Jackson Proskow reports, trump remains unapologetic about his America First strategy.
Meanwhile, with U.S. tariffs set to take effect, Canada faces serious economic consequences. However, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is standing firm, vowing that Canada will respond to the trade measures. Mackenzie Gray reports on Canada's next move in the escalating trade dispute.
Investigators have retrieved the D.C. plane's black boxes, crucial to determining the cause of the crash. The recovered data could provide key insights into what went wrong in the final moments before impact. Authorities are now analyzing the recordings to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. Reggie Cecchini reports.

This in the long run will be beneficial for Canada. It's time to stop being so reliant on free trade with the U.S. and focus on becoming more self sufficient while trading more with partners overseas. With the northern passage trade route becoming more accessible thanks to global warming, Canada has options and should explore them while fighting back against Trump's bluff that will hurt most U.S. states whos main trading partner is Canada.

Crude that cant be processed are swapped internationally for higher quality sweet crude that can be refined in the US which oil companies have unlimited access to. As for other products from Canada, no one in the world wants them due to price and US can simply import substitute cheaper. 99% of Americans don't care two hoots what happens in Canada so any diplomatic efforts to influence Trump policy will fail hard. Well, she obviously has been taking lessons from her hero, DJT. If you get COVID in AB, if you want to shorten your illness and get some Paxlovid, you as an Albertan will pay $1400 for a course of anti-viral treatment. And last weekend she decided unilaterally that nobody needs any kind of vaccination at all in AB - won't be available if you want it. She took transfer payments from the Feds to pay for these things, and now she says you can't have it. Last week I was word fighting with one guy from Edmonton who was desperate to get hip or knee replacements and had been waiting a long time for it, then when he admitted where he lived, I could see why he was whining like he was. I told him to move to a non-PC province, preferably NDP. She is up for re-election in 2027 and can do an enormous damage from now until then - I believe she is doing this purposefully because then she can sell the idea of private health insurance to her constituents - what will she do with all the medical transfer payments her province is entitled to?

Canadians buy local wherever possible. Find out who your Canadian companies are from electronics to clothing. In the winter obviously, we import produce. But don't buy American, buy tomatoes on the vine, e.g. from Mexico, avocados from Latin America etc. Buy Canadian canned goods. And if you can't buy local, buy European products, just not American. Actually when I googled Canadian companies, even for things like laptops , there were a lot more than I thought. And remember Canadian companies are hiring in Canada. Trump says we don't have much of a military. Let's oblige him. Canadian youth who are experiencing unemployment , join the army.(or navy) I think you can get stuff like free pilot and helicopter training. Also I believe for officer training the army will give free post secondary training. I'm not sure of this but it is worth looking into. This whole tariff thing won't last forever either. Trump is in power for four years, and I doubt if Americans are going to be happy with all this.

Canada has some of the world's dirtiest and lowest quality oil. That means it takes more energy to refine it than from other sources like the middle east. It's not competitive to transport it across oceans. Ideally you want Canada to build it's own refineries, but the tree huggers won't allow it.
